True family-owned gem. After getting fed up with weak service and a boring selection from the chain stores I was referred to Prospector's Pouch by a friend. I found this place to be exactly what I was hoping for - friendly, knowledgeable people who take time to get to know you, and a great variety of jewelry (much of it custom designed) and gemstones. In fact they have one particular kind of stone called Georgia Midnight that is incredible to see, and they're the only jeweler in the country that has access to it. I've been a customer for 7 years and have no intention of going anywhere else, because no other store in Atlanta comes close to what they offer.

As to the comment about wiping your feet at the door - they get a number of gemologists from out in the field as well as workers who come in with Georgia clay all over their boots. Its a high-end jewelry store, not a rec-room, so I'm not surprised they have a sign and want to keep the place nice. I doubt any other store would tolerate having their carpet ruined, either.
