Great CAJUN food!. Having attended college at LSU, lived in New Orleans, and returned to the state for visits w/friends for 40 years just to eat my way through the state, I can say this food just means I can stay home in Douglasville and get most of the things I travel to Louisiana to eat.

The atmosphere is very similar to that of many of the family restaurants I frequent between Baton Rouge and New Orleans (although most of them have newspapers covered by white or brown paper). The serving personnel are great and just add to the enjoyment of the WONDERFUL food.

Now, we get to the food--it is great!! My favorite?? The fried shrimp platter (or shrimp poboy). But then, I've tried just about everything on the menu and never had anything that I wouldn't have again. The gumbo (both the seafood and chicken & andouille) is fabulous even in this summer weather. Try it. Your digestive system will love it!!

Best Bread Pudding Ever!!!. We eat at Gumbeaux's at least once a month and have been for 3 years (actually, my husband has been going there since it first opened). Although occassionally someone in the kitchen gets overzealous with the cayene pepper :-) the food is consistently good. But what keeps us coming back is the bread pudding! I've told many a friend and acquaintance that when we finally get around to holding our wedding reception, instead of wedding cake I want several pans of Gumbeaux's bread pudding. The service is usually decent - some servers are better than others, but that's pretty typical anywhere you go.

Really Good. Had a 62 mile drive to get to it. Was worth it. Great food. Favorites appetizers were Cajun Popcorn and Gator Combo and The Cajun Sampler. Favorites on the sampler were the Crawfish Etouffee, Shrimp Creole and Jambalaya. The portions were huge. We were full before the entrees arrived. Entrees were the Seafood Rotini and Fried Oyster platter. The oysters needed to be seasoned a little more but besides that, no issues. Place was packed. Service was excellent. Food did not take too long to arrive. Will definitely go back.

LOVE the crab stuffed mushrooms!. This place is fantastic, one of our favorite restaurants. It's not a place that I would take kids regularly, it's more of an adult restaurant at dinner time. The crab stuffed mushrooms are amazing and the portions are HUGE!

Love It! Love It! Love It!. My family recently went to Gumbeaux's Tuesday night and had the best meal. The service was great also. We do go often, however, we do not go on the weekends as much. The best time to go is through the week. If you do go on the weekends, you need to be prepared to wait. People drive from all over just to eat at Gumbeaux's. The service is always great. Nancy has been there for at least 50 years--not really, but a long time and she is wonderful. This is my favorite place to eat in Douglasville. The food is wonderful. The steak is better than any steak at Outback/Texas Roadhouse/Logan's. I LOVE the seafood gumbo. It's the best!! I am waiting for the Coconut Shrimp to be added to the menu!! HURRY UP!!!

Excellent food, great atmosphere. I have been going to Gumbeaux's for many years now. Being from Louisiana, I have to say the food is right on target. The people are very friendly and ther service is wonderful. The management is great, you can really see that everyone is on top of everything. I highly recommend Gumbeaux's to anyone looking for a great down home cajun meal with excellent service. Thanks Gumbeaux's & management !!!!!!

WELL Worth the wait and the drive!. You must have been the only one NOT happy last night! The food and service my party received was absolutely TOP NOTCH! This place is authentic and well worth the drive. As with anywhere worth eating, there is an unpredictible wait. Some people can't be happy anywhere. I've been a regular for years and I love the consistent, top quality food that I always get.

Horribly managed. As a party of 4 adults and a three year old boy, we arrived around 5 PM and were told that there were only 3 parties ahead of us. After over an hour, and watching 8-10 parties of 4 seated ahead us, we were told that they had only 5 tables in the whole place that could seat a party of 5. When we were finally seated, we mentioned this to the waitress and she sent the manager over. The manager was flippant and unconcerned and stated the the 5 tables were "all she's got" and walked away. We have gone there for years, but the novelty has worn off. This is not the first time we have been disappointed in the service. The peel and eat French Quarter Shrimp was so over cooked that it was a struggle to peel and eat. A real disappointment! We drove a long way to stand in line and wait for poor service, a large bill, and a rude manager. The men's restroom was trashed by 6 PM. There was litter everywhere. Also, we overhead the hostess telling a party with a wheelchair that there was only one table that would accommodate them, and that that table had not been served yet, and there would be quite a long wait. After much complaining, this party was taken from the main waiting area. I hope they were seated to their satisfaction. Is the food worth the hassle? I don't think so.

Worst Service ever. Staff was not friendly and Manager was very unprofessional and argumentive. Restaurant was very busy and we were told the wait was 45 minutes. That was fine. Went upstairs to the bar for a glass of wine. It took more than several minutes to get the bartenders attention and then once we called after him a few times, he could only take one drink order at a time. he served the wine then came back and served the glass of beer, then served a drink to my friend then came back and served my friend's husband. The bar is not very large and and only about 10 people were sitting at it so it should not have been a problem waiting on those patrons. He chatted with a golf buddy of his and totally ignored the customers at the bar. When we needed refills, we had to again get his attention and wait for each drink to be served separately. Service was awful!!! After 90 minutes of waiting for a table we went downstairs to ask the manager when our table would be ready. She said there were large parties ahead of us and we would be seated shortly because a smaller table just became available and they were waiting for it to be cleaned. We continued to wait in the bar and after 45 minutes we still were not called. We attempted to pay our bar bill (which required yelling for the bartender several times) and headed downstairs to wait for the table. The manager then told us the kitchen was backed up and that no one was being seated. In total, we waited 2 hours and 10 minutes and were still not seated. We were starving by that time and left to head to another restaurant. I can't say if the food tasted good but the portions I saw being served during my 2 hour wait looked scrumptous. I will never again try to dine at this restaurant on the weekend - they obviously are not set up to handle their customers properly. I think the wait and bar staff need to be trained properly and realize that they are in the restaurant business and that involves taking care of the customer.
