STAY AWAY! My children have gone to
Great Expressions (previously Nanston) Kids Care for several years now. Since the new management (GE), things have wayyyyy down hill.
My son had an appointment last month that I made several months ago. It was for a crown. We went in & 2 HOURS LATER, they come out to get me & say his CLEANING went well. I was like WTH?? They changed the appointment without telling me. Their "excuse" was that he was overdue for a cleaning & the don't do major work without a cleaning first. I was FURIOUS! Not just because of changing the appointment, but what the hell took 2 HOURS????? I couldn't believe they just changed the appointment without telling me. We are talking HEALTH here...you cannot change health-related work without permission!! What if it had been the other way around???
This is not the first time I have had problems. Previously, both of my kids had cleaning appointments at the same time. They took them back on time. At the 1.5 hour time mark, I had the front desk person check on my kids. She came back & said "oh, they are about to start on them." Again, I was FURIOUS! They had been sitting in the back for an hour & a half with NOTHING being done!!! I asked my daughter (who is 10) what she was doing the whole time. She said she was just sitting in the room. She said the doctors/assistants would come in & get stuff, but didn't talk to her. So she basically just sat there for 1.5 hrs.
And don't get me started on the billing. Before GE took over, I had no problems with quotes, billing, etc. Since I have been given quotes, then received bills for $400+ dollars AFTER the work. Their "excuse" is that the quotes are just that....not a guarateed amount. Why is it that I have never had a problem before?? And I haven't changed insurance companies?? Their rates haven't changed either.
I am sooo over this place & we are taking our business elsewhere! I would recommend everyone else stay away from Great Expressions!!
Public Health Hazard.
This was our first visit to Great Expressions due to changing insurance policies.
We were in the office for 2.5 hours without getting our teeth cleaned. In fact, they barely touched either my or my wife's teeth.
First, they took 18 x-rays for each of us. This process took 20-30 minutes. I have never had a dentist take so many x-rays. At the same time, they tried to get me to pay an extra $50 for an oral cancer screening not covered by insurance.
When they got done with my x-rays, my came in and was in tears because they were telling her that she had gum disease, periodontal disease, bone decay, needed her wisdom teeth removed and needed braces. She said that our old dentist, who has a really good reputation but is not part of our new network, did shoddy work and did not clear her teeth well.
My BS detector was going off at this point.
I waited a long time for the next phase. When they finally came to examine me, they barely looked in my mouth and said that I had two cavities, gun disease, periodontal disease, bone decay, etc.
They recommended a complete debridement for my wife ($125 out of pocket) and a perio scaling and root planing ($472 out of pocket) for me.
For much of the time that we were in the office, our children (ages 3 and 8) were sitting alone in the waiting room. Our son said that they did about 6 x-rays on him, which concerned me about the amount of radiation that they exposed the kids to.
When we left the office, we called our old dentist who gave us a checkup and cleaning six months ago, and they said that there was no way that what Great Expressions was telling us was correct. There was no way our teeth and bones could gotten so bad in six months.
When I googled reviews for the office, I found this site. With so many people having the same problems they said that we have, I am convinced that they are a bunch of crooks who are intent on selling whatever services they can, regardless of whether they are needed or not. I called them back and told them what I thought of their service.
In addition to posting this review, I complained to my insurance company and notified their fraud division. I encourage anybody who has a similar experience to do the same thing. You can also file a complaint with the Georgia Board of Dentistry at sos.georgia.gov/plb/dentistry/complaint_procedure.pdf
The only good thing about the experience was that we got a heck of a lot of x-rays. We did take copies with us and we'll show them to our next dentist for another opinion.
Interestingly, they were more interested in "deep cleaning" our gums than fixing my cavities. The Great Expressions people acted like we had never seen a dentist!
If you are a victim of Great Expressions, complain to your insurance company's fraud department. You can also file complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, and the Georgia Office of Consumer Protection. These people are scam artists and constitute a public health hazard.
NEVER TRUST THEM. Do they have black stars for negative service?? I wish they did. Where shall I start....It started off with receiving a bill for x rays when I specified I only wanted what was covered under insurance. When I questioned the company they told me, "It's not that much just pay it or we will turn you in to collections." Then the story gets better when I go for another 6 month cleaning and after being called back to the dentist chair and sitting there for almost an hour, the hygentist FINALLY shows up with no apology and no reason why. TWO hours after my appointment was scheduled I was finally told I have severe decay and a cavity on two teeth. I was then informed I had to pay my previous bill before I receive anymore treatment. I was also told my next bill for the filling would be $93.00. Since I havent had a cavity since I was 8, I decided to get a second opinion. I then went on requesting x rays for the next week but guess what they never faxed me the form. When I finally got the x rays (requesting every x ray in my file) and paid $25.00 I went to the other dentist for a second opinion and SHOCKER the x rays I requested were not only in an envelope with a different patients name on them but they were over a year old! In the meantime my sister decided to loan me the 93 it would take for my filling and went to drop the payment off at the Great Expressions on hwy 5 next to Burger King in Douglasville, GA. And here's another shocker, they charged her for the x rays as well. Now they refuse to give me the money back, they have belittled me, lied to me, and avoided me. Not only am I so done with this office, I cant help but warn others not to go here not to speak to Ursala, not to speak to front office. Run run far and fast with wallets tight in your hand, because that is all they are interested in....your money!
DO NOT GO!. I wish I could give 0 stars on this. Not only did the fillings take 3 hours, but the dentist complained about missing lunch breaks while working on my teeth, gave me very dangerous incorrect information about drug safety while breastfeeding, left cavity residue that had to be filed off at another dentist, didn't adjust my bite which gave me a lot of pain for almost a month, and gave me a rinse that left dark marks on all my teeth that took 2 months and multiple cleanings with another dentist to correct. All of this was discussed with Tonya and Nadeen, both "managers", and they failed to do anything about this. DO NOT GO HERE.
Stay away. I felt uncomfortable from the moment I walked in but I kept the appt. for my daughter. They found cavities (I got a second opinion just to make sure). I was so happy they referred us to a pedodontist. That was our way out and I took it. Their customer service is terrible. I stood at the counter waiting while I watched them talk and sit around. I heard them talking badly about one patient. I would never recommend this dentist. Everyone should read reviews first and then decided. Learn from the people who have been there and had bad experiences.
