Tips for Publix Super Market at Promenade at Pleasant Hill

A 5-Sttar Publix with 1-Star Sub Sandwiches. I love Publix subs! So much so that within a block are a Quiznos, Philly Cheese Steak, Arby's (where they have subs) and a Subway, all of which I pass to get my sub at Publix.

PubSubs can be made with Publix brand deli meats and cheeses or Boarshead Brand for a small premium. The other places that make subs can't touch these subs...almost.

The closest Publix to me, at Promenade at Pleasant Hill (Store #00505), has two separate issues affecting sub quality. First, and foremost, would be Deli Management who don't manage the staff very well. Second, the sub rolls are never fresh despite allegedly being made daily. Here are some of the things my GF and I have discussed:

1. The bickering between employees is commonplace, with griping occurring in front of customers.

2. Unhappy staff throw together subs carelessly, sometimes mistakenly using Publix brand but charging Boarshead prices.

3. Sub rolls as hard as rocks because they are not stored for maximum freshness as they are at other Publix locations.

4. Sub makers who ask what you want on your sub 5 or 6 times & still get it wrong

(How difficult is it to remember mayo, lettuce & black olives?)

The truly bad part about the Publix at Pleasant Hill is that it is closest to where I live and closest to where I go for movies and working out. The last three subs I bought there have taught me not to waste my money there any more. I still shop at that location for groceries, just not for subs.

I had one conversation with the Deli Manager about the sub roll freshness and spoke with her about one employee's really bad behavior. I've asked the sub makers for the softest, freshest rolls when I order but that request is ignored by at least three of the deli staff. Apathy and pettiness rule at the deli counter and the tone of the employees starts at management.
