Traditional dishes and all -you-can-eat salad, soup and bread sticks are the draw at this upscale-casual Italian restaurant..
In Short
Established in 1982, this chain gained a following for its laid-back atmosphere and generous portions. Patrons settle into comfortable booths and tables in dining rooms with plants, artwork and décor reminiscient of the villas in the Tuscan countryside. Starters include scampi, sausage or pepperoni pizza, and several soup choices, as well as a signature seafood dip (crab, shrimp, cheese and marinara). Entrees include classics like lasagna, fettuccine Alfredo and chicken parmigiana. There are also "Garden Fare" options, which promise 30 percent fewer calories.
Rush, Rush, Rush. Olive Garden used to be among my favorite nice-but-not-too-fancy restaurants. However, after the last time I ate there with my husband, we'll never go back. We were in and out in twenty minutes, no joke, and we even ordered an appetizer! Two minutes after the salad and breadsticks came, the appetizer arrived, and neither of us had touched it when the entrees came a few minutes later. That's right--the salad, breadsticks, appetizer, and entrees were sitting on the table the entire meal, and by the time we got to our entrees, they were cold. Then we were ignored; I never got to order wine. They promptly brought us the check--no time for dessert, I guess. The place wasn't even busy. The couple at the table in front of us complained, and I regret that we didn't. Never eat there!
