Best breakfast. good food for breakfast. dont like the pancakes but the eggs and bacon and grits are southern style. I overall enjoyed it since my job paid for all of us to eat breakfast as a group.

Just plain bad. We just moved to the area from Decatur and we're looking for a breakfast spot on par with Decatur's selection. This is NOT it.

Firstly, the place is dirty. It was clearly built and designed in the 80s. It's probably been just as long since the place was cleaned...ceiling tiles falling down, dirt & dust everywhere, seats torn, etc. I think I'd hate to tour the kitchen.

So, whatever...I've eaten great food in horrible looking places. Let's order. The wife and I ordered omelets and a side of bacon. My daughter got the kid's 1 egg special. Waiting 15 minutes for eggs is a bad sign. I said to my wife, "It's all gonna be cold."

Sure enough...the eggs, bacon, grits, home fries and biscuits were room temperature. Not only that...the omelets were over cooked, actually browned on the outside and hard as a sponge on the inside...sitting in a pool of egg water. The grits tasted like tap water. The black colored bacon had a over-smoked flavor and greasy texture. The home fries looked like they were crisp 20 minutes before they were served, however at the table they were mushy and cold.

I have to admit, the sweet tea is excellent; hard brewed and lightly sweetened. Anyway, you'd be better off stopping at the Waffle House or IHOP on the same road.

Best Biscuits. Old Hickory House has a wondrful breakfast. Everything from the homemade biscuits to the pancakes and eggs are great. The service is good, the waiters/waitresses are efficient and friendly. It is a favorite spot for my friends and me. Old Hickory House is highly recommended.

Best Breakfast. I have been eating breakfast at this location for several years. They have the largest pancakes in town. They are so large that you may need to split an order with someone. The service is friendly and the price is right. My whole family loves it.

You can't beat their stew and their BBQ pork!. Hickory House has the #1 BBQ and Brunswick stew in my book! I used to eat at the Old Hickory House across from Columbia Mall near Avondale, GA beginning in the 1970's until it closed. I've eaten at all the Hickory Houses around Atlanta over the years, although only two remain in business. I ate at the Northlake Mall Old Hickory House today and the food was excellent. Yes, the BBQ has a sweet hickory flavor and that's the flavor BBQ should have. You can't beat their stew and their BBQ pork! The building is old, but that only upholds the Hickory House tradition. The employees were friendly and service was fine. I don't happen to like those huge steak potato fries, but guess what? I don't go to Hickory House for fries. All BBQ in my book gets measured by Old Hickory House's standards.

Ehh, it's so-so. It's not awful, but it's not great. Everything I've had, from barbeque to sides, was cooked to mush. The barbeque itself is a little sweet for my taste. The service is okay, but not grand. All in all, Old Hickory House is just kind of hohum, but if you like mushy food and don't like things spicy, I'd recommend it.

Great Barbecue But Restaurant Needs A Makeover. There is no way to fault the barbecue which is the Old Hickory House specialty. And the breakfast and brunch items are top notch. The veteran waitstaff who call you "Darlin" and race around to make sure your every whim is met cannot be faulted. But the Old Hickory House facility is frankly worn out and dingy. With its flourescent lighting and smoke-stained ceiling tiles it has slipped beyond rustic to just plain tired. The place has not changed in years, and I'm sure many people love that. But on my recent visits, I've found it dark and depressing. Go for the breakfast, brunch and barbecue. Just don't look too closely at the building. And if you own this restaurant, please spruce it up.
