The Scene
Located in a nearly invisible strip center along with a funeral products store, House of Chan maintains an unshakably dignified air, with its elegant black awning, marble-tiled entry and stately Muzak. Though small, it feels clean and airy. It's a welcome stop on a rainy night.
The Food
Fresh ingredients and standout sauces are the keynote here. Spicy Hunan eggplant with chicken combines slivers of Asian eggplant with tender strips of chicken breast in a slightly sweet, almost buttery sauce. Moo shu pork contrasts crunchy vegetables and mildly flavored meat with a tangy plum sauce. Kulu shrimp, "Chan's specialty," is a welcome improvement over the typical sweet and sour offering. Tomatoe-y, tangy-sweet sauce is tossed with perfectly cooked red and green bell peppers and especially fresh-tasting shrimp. In a special of green beans in black bean sauce, the salty sauce highlights the green beans' sweetness--it's a perfect contrast of texture and flavor.

I'm from New York and have been searching for about 3 years for great Chinese. I have travelled all over Atlanta in search of it. I went to House of Chan's because of all the positive reviews. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken and it came with fried rice. My boyfriend ordered 10wings and vegetable rice. I can honestly say they have the freshest and lightest tasting chicken i've had in Georgia. But honestly I will say the food isn't as great as everyone says. I will say the Chinese is about as good as you can get in Georgia. The chicken is awesome, But the chicken wings were salty but they were fried well and they tasted great-minus the salt. The rice was very light and tasty but they had NO salt on it. I would recommend this place. All in all the food was great. But I content on believing that the best Chinese comes from China, New York and California. Everything else is second to it. I will surely eat there again. Maybe they had an off night. hope this helps

My husband and I no longer eat at House of Chan. This makes me very sad, b/c despite the fact that their egg rolls and crab rangoon were never very good, they had the best sesame chicken and beef/broccoli and we actually loved their free hot tea. We ate there a few times a month, and the small staff there started to recognize us. The hostess is very nice, I swear. But it slowly escalated from greeting us warmly, to chatting for a moment when she sat us, to stopping by to chat while we were eating, to sitting and talking with us until our food arrived ... until the last time we went, when she pulled a chair up to our booth and talked to us the whole time we were there. We provided one-word answers to her questions, didn't ask any of our own, referred to it as our "date night" ... all to no avail. It was just too awkward, so we stopped going. Anyway, the entrees are really amazing, so I highly recommend House of Chan ... just don't be too friendly with the staff, I guess.

This is quite simply a great Chinese place. Instead of the heavy, greasy chinese that other places serve, the food here tastes fresh and light. Today the special was sesame chicken, and the star is the chicken. The batter and glaze compliment the meat instead of the other way around. My only gripe is that egg rolls or soup do not come as part of the entree.
