Mouth Watering Steak – I’ve heard about this steak place over and over again. I read about it in an onboard flight magazine a few months back and then someone on the plane was talking about it when I flew in to ATL this past time. Blackstone makes some of the juiciest, most mouthwatering steaks I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Better than some of the steak joints in NYC and that’s saying something. The staff was attentive, the chef did table visits and everything couldn’t have gone more perfect. Now I know why the place is as popular as it is.
Great Atmosphere, Amazing Food – My Husband and I recently visited Blackstone, our experience was fantastic to say the least. We decided to grab a drink at the bar before dinner and listen to some music. The dark ambiance set the mood. Everyone was talking and having a great time. Shortly after we went to our table where we were greeted promptly by our waiter. He was outgoing and was right on point with everything he recommended. We started off with a flatbread for the appetizer, and for dinner my husband and I ordered the filet. The filet was cooked to perfection and extremely tender, it was like cutting into butter. Now normally I do not get dessert but felt in the mood for something sweet. Our waiter insisted that we try the banana pudding, ohhhhh was he right about that! I have never in my life had banana pudding that tasted so extraordinary. I would recommend this restaurant in a heart beat, everything was on point with our experience. A+ for Blackstone!
Blackstone – A tip is something that you GIVE . Something the server will EARN if they give good service. The better service the better the tip. This place is a bag of crap! and the management is a bag also if they are stealing from the patrons that are using a coupon that they advertised. bunch of d bags!
Not a good experience – I completely understand how tips are calculated when using a coupon and always tip 20% on the initial total amount if the service was deserving.
You're in the service industry and if you all will make an issue of accepting coupons and try to embarrass the patrons when they try to use it, then you should not sign up to accept them. I was a patron for 8+ years before I used the coupon for the first time and Blackstone's made me feel embarrased.
Btw, should you be giving yourselves a 5 star rating to offset the poor reviews?
Dedicated Restaurantdotcom patron speaks up! – I love Restaurantdotcom. When you can figure out its quirky terms, it can really save you money. I always use it in town and when I travel. I usually Google the participating restaurants to get right to the reviews. I was concerned about the most recent reviews of Blackstone restaurant in Vinings regarding the 35%service charges to other coupon users. I confronted the restaurant management about this before even stepping foot in the restaurant. I guess not everyone understands that the Restaurantdotcom terms allow the restaurants to calculate a 20% service fee on the non-discounted bill amount before tax and add that to the discounted bill. To people that don't understand the process (that they subscribed to), this looks like a 35% service charge on the discounted bill, but it is not. I really believe that waiters and waitresses should not be penalized for a 50% discount off the original food bill that the restaurant offers. Blackstone did it right.
Now for the important part. I plan to dine at Blackstone in a few weeks and will let you know what I think about the food and service. I did find enough really good reviews in CitySearch and other websites to make a trip to this restaurant worthwhile.
Blackstones in Vinings needs help – Not what it used to be. Ridiculous service charge of 35% when using coupon. Went there to have dinner and chill at bar with old friends recently. Been going there for 10 years. Bar staff was rude and really made us regret we went there. Will not be going back. We'll miss Kenny who was off this past Sat. night.
I'll never step in this restaurant again..... – I've been a regular of this place since it opened and have had great experiences there until recently. The last time I was there with a date and friends, I noticed that the food portions have gotten smaller and the menu changed so that the quality has gone down as well. We usually have a few drinks at the bar and then have dinner there.
The quality of the clientele also have diminished with mainly 55+ divorcees that could use another drink.
Tonight, we went there again for old times sake and called our friends to come meet us at the bar. When we went to pay for the bill, it was all on one check ($185) ,where as it has always been split for us by our regular bartender. I tried to explain this to the shift "manager" that we need to have two checks since there are two couples and we have two restaurant com $25 gift certificates that we'd like to apply to our bill. Mr. Thomas, the manager rolled his eyes and shook his head in front of all of the other patrons, embarrassing me. When he came back 10 mins later, I noticed that there was a 35% service charge applied to the ticket. I didn't debate the service charge but just explained to him that I dont' think that I was unreasonable for asking him to split the check in two and apply two certificates to the checks since we come to the place alot and we know several folks that are there and it just so happens that our friends were also there. He started to say that he was just doing us a favor and he's off of his shift and wasn't supposed to be working anyways. He then just walked away.
My date started questioning the 35% service charge with our bartender and she tried to explain it and got her calculator out. At that point, it wasn't about the $, it was about being embarrassed in a place that we've spent thousands of dollars with over the years. The last thing I said to the bartender/waitress was "I just want to be sure that you're taken care of because of the way that the $25 was applied." She said she appreciates that. I signed the bill and started to leave.
My date tried to explain that the math should be very simple.... you take the whole number, divided by two, add the 20% service charge and take $25 of of each check for each certificate applied. She got frustrated and then just told us to get out of there. I WAS FURIOUS to be embarrassed as a regular customer and asked for the owner (who was away on holiday).
Then the guy bartender (30ish) started to tell us to get out. My friend, who is 60, gave him a few choice words as we were walking out and the bartender shoved him.
My date then socked the bartender in the jaw and said, "you just hit a 60 year old man!"
This is the first time I've used the gift certificate after given them my business for at least 8 years and it will be the last time. I still have the certificates because we said that we don't want to walk out of there with them feeling like we owe them anything. We asked them to void out the certificates, tag on whatever service charge they want and for us to leave with our dignity.
You bet we will address this with the owner once he comes back but we won't be back.
Left with a full belly and a head full of questions... – We ate at Blackstone last night for the first time. Overall the service was decent with some weighty exceptions. The waiter did forget to bring our bottle of wine out to us and then later gave me a kiss on the cheek!? How weird and inappopriate was that?!
I can get past all of that since most of the food was really good. However, we also received the 35% service charge, which took away from the overall experience. The more I think about it, the more angry I become. Not sure if the charge was applied because we used a certificate from restaurant-dot-com for part of the payment. A 20% tip was expected by using that, but 35%? Come on. Had I been the one paying, I would have gotten to the bottom of this charge as it was presented. However that was not the case and so I will just continue to stew over it.
In conclusion, be aware of any possible "service charge" and don't be afraid to question it.
Pros: Great steaks & calamari
Cons: 35% Service Charge? Waiter not knowing about personal space
Bad service – We did not receive the level of service that you would expect from this type of restaurant. The food was good but not great and especially not for those prices.
If they are competing with Chops and Hal's for steaks and service, they would lose on both accounts. We waited almost 5 minutes to be greeted by a hostess and the restaurant was only 1/2 full. It was close to 10 minutes before an assistant server finally came over to take our drink/app order. He even took our dinner order! It was almost 20 minutes after we were seated, before our server came to greet the table and tell us about the "specials". We had to inform him we already had placed our orders. Dirty dishes weren't removed promptly; steak knives were not brought with the meals and we weren't even asked if we wanted dessert before the check was presented.
We purchased restaurant_com gift certificates to check out the place but were very disappointed.
Great food – Have had family dinners here and corporate dinners in private dining room. The food is always delicious, the service is terrific, and the martini specials don't hurt.
