This Little Five Points store has such a sparkling reputation, wilderness-bound travelers take detours here to stuff their backpacks. You won't find any khaki-clad collegiates building out their "rugged" wardrobe here--just hardcore trailblazers who don't play around with wimpy equipment.
The Goods
Stocked by people who know the rigors of camping, climbing and backpacking--quality and toughness rank above the brand du jour. Look for Mountain Hardwear tents, sleeping bags, backpacks and clothing. You'll also find some Marmot and GoLite in the mix, and Petzl's lightweight climbing gear. The hiking boots are some of the best available, including lines by Vasque and Garmont. Mountain Ventures also carries related accessories like cooking sets, reference books, gloves and headgear.
