Of the 2 Indian restaurants on Holcomb Bridge, I recommend this one.... I'm from Connecticut and have a fascination with a great restaurant called Ambassador of India in Glastonbury, CT (go there if you ever visit the area), which is considered the best Indian restaurant in CT. Well, since experiencing the food and service at this place, I have been let down by many other Indian restaurants. I've been to a competitor's of India Chef, and the food was sub-par, when compared to that great Indian restaurant in Glastonbury, CT. India Chef is the closest that I've had. I see that there are some people who are unhappy with the flavors, but I think they may have not specified how spicy they wanted their dish. I've always told the waiter (who is very friendly and not annoyingly attentive) how I want my Chicken Tikka Masala and it always comes out perfectly. The Aloo Naan (naan, an Indian flat bread, filled with curry flavored potato chunks--Perfect for you carb lovers!) is great, as are the samosas (which, as a warning, have soy beans in them). If you are unsure about whether the money is well spent, go visit them during the lunch buffet (especially on Fridays, so that you can try the Chicken Tikka Masala, which is rather mild but you can just add the Indian hot sauce to get the flavor to your specifications). A variety of dishes to try for a great low price. Give them a chance, you may be surprised.
good but not great.
My husband and I went there for dinner last Tuesday -- there was only one other table occupied in the entire restaurant. We ordered the sampler appetizer which was nothing great and not much food for the $$. The garlic naan was very good! Our entrees were served luke-warm which was disappointing. My husband ordered a vindaloo dish and it wasn't spicy hot at all. My vegetarian dinner was good but the curried cream sauce had very little flavor. Service was slow; the water boy (man) was nice and smiled a lot but the waiter wasn't very friendly.
If they would put a little more effort into this place, it could be really good.
Its not indian food. its way too americanized.
I went to this restaurant today with my roommate (white female). I'm indian and didn't like the food at all. They don't use the spices used in indian food. Everything was tasteless to me. My roommate didn't complain much cuz she is vegetarian and can't handle spicy food. She also mentioned food was tasteless though.
I do not recommend it at all.
Best Indian food arround. My husband and I have been going to Indian Chef for years. They recently moved to a great location on Holcomb Bridge Rd. The wait staff always remember's what we like to order and we never wait long to recieve our food - Fantastic Service. We have a lot of indian friends that have cooked for us and this is as authentic as it comes. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the mood for indian food. You can never go wrong with great food and the best service. We eat out alot and there are not many restaurants that have both. Hope you have as good of an experience as we always do.
YUM. My husband and I loooove this place. He's from England, and has to have his "curry fix" from time to time. We have been eating here for years, and are never disappointed. As a matter of fact, this is the place that got me hooked on Indian food. The staff is awesome, the atmosphere is nice and mellow, and they are very accomodating - they always make my husband's curry "british hot" just like he likes it. I always recommend this place to others.
consistantly good to very good. i agree with ajnorooz, the food has always been consistantly good to very good. the last bill for 5 adults with a cpl of drinks was just over $75, however this included leftovers for two dinners, which are even better the next day. here's a hint ... indian all-u-can-eat lunch at just about any indian place is always the best bargain !
Northside Fix. I don't agree with the previous 2 posts. I mean it's not the best Indian I've ever had, but certainly not horrible. In fact, considering there aren't many Indian places that I've found North of the city. I'll go back because it's close and the quickest place to get my fix. And...it's pretty good.
