I would have to disagree with the previous post. I have been to this restaurant 3 times now and have been pleased every time with the food and service. The Pad Thai is very good as is the Panang curry. I also thought the Tom Yom soup was good. I have vacationed in Thailand twice and would have to say that the dishes are not as spicy as you will find in Bangkok or Chaing Mai but the flavors are pretty authentic. I plan to eat here again soon.
WORST RESTAURANT TO GO TO! When I first enter the restaurant, my impression was its very dated and old. I thought to myself, well the food must not be very good. Server was okay, lack of experience in my opinion. The cashier is very rude! food wasn't great at all! we ordered pad se u, it tasted like crap...the noodle was hard. the Pad Thai didn't even look like a pad thai...it was pale...yuck! The curry is too light...the crab meat cheese rolls was small and salty! oh...we wen't on lunch...so we supposed to get the sides...to pick soup or spring rolls or salad...well the soup was too salty..it was supposed to be tom yum soup..it tasted waaay off! the only one that tasted okay and edible is their fried rice =( very disappointing! I do not recommend eating at this restaurant...
Taste of Thai Norcross. This restaurant is amazing.....I've been going there since I was a little girl, my mom use to work in the same plaza. Now as an almost 30 yrs old adult, I live 30 mins away and anytime I'm in Norcross this is where I go. DRUNKUN NOODLES ALL THE WAY!! I can't find it anywhere else. THE ABSOLUTE BEST
Spicy Basil Leave Chicken is the best thing I've ever eaten. Taste of Thai is one of the two "must go to" restuarants I take out of town friends when they visit Atlanta. I used to work around the Jimmy Carter area, and a friend turned me onto the place back in 1998. From 1999-2000, I ate there at least once a week, sometimes more. I have only had one dish - the Spicy Basil Leave Chicken. I'm sure the whole menu is great, but the Spicy Basil Leave Chicken is so phenomenal that I can't take a chance on ordering something else off the menu that might merely be good. I always order it with a fried egg on top. I don't know if this is on the menu, but that's the way my friend ordered it the first time I ate there, so that's the way I've always ordered it. I also ask for it spicy, but be warned, ordering it spicy means you will need a second caraffe of water on the table - it's that spicy. As for the guy who wrote the negative review about the rude girl at the counter, I would be willing to bet he's the one with the problem. The girls who work there are among the friendliest servers I've ever encountered. I moved to New Orleans from Atlanta around 2001, and didn't get back to Taste of Thai for several years. When I finally was able to return, the young lady who waited on me was one of the daughters who worked there back when I was a regular. She came right to the table and said, "Spicy Basil Leave Chicken with Egg, right?" Yup. She remembered what I order three years after the fact. If that's not great service, I don't know what is. If there's one dish you must eat before you die, The Spicy Basil Leave Chicken with an egg on top is it.
reply to hydrenalins review. I was the cashier at Taste of Thai.. I am actually the daughter of the owner there... we've been there since 1989... business is still good... once in a while we will come across difficult customers...and we will try to do our best to correct the problem.. but this guy hydrenalin was being terribly rude from the beginning... he ordered something and decided he didn't want it and ordered something else... we changed it for him, he wanted me to fix his bill.. and i asked him if he'd like me to show him how i'm calculating it.. he said "NO, you do it, you did it so you fix it" I was not asking him to fix it... i was just trying to show him what i was doing and what i was charging him for.. i even gave him the calculator since he thought i was cheating but this guy did not want to cooperate.. he crossed his arms and said no once again and said the same thing... i even told him gratuity is added... after 5 minutes of just listening to his rudeness i had to let my mom handle it cuz theres only so much you can do when someone speaks to you with such utter disrespect... so i was in the back room crying to myself b/c this guy was being so mean and rude.. never have i been talked to like that.. i mean this guy was REALLY MEAN... and he said his friends don't come back... but i still see every one of them except him... and I'm glad! Really...all our customers are regulars and we know them well and know what they like to order everytime they come in... so please don't listen to this guy because HE GAVE HIMSELF an unpleasant time here.
Below average food followed by even worse service..
Thai food has become very popular in Atlanta. Thai restaurants have popped up all over the place. I have dined at several Thai restaurants ranging from small strip mall locations to upscale affair for a total of over 20 different Thai restaurants.
I decided to give this one a try recently. I went with friends during lunch time. The dining area was very sparsely decorated and very dated. I hoped that the food would make up for the atmosphere and decor. The serving portions were no bigger than any other and the pricing was similar to others as well. The egg roll was absolutely horrible. It tasted like old dry paper wrapped around stale cabbage. I ordered the mixed vegetable with shrimp as my main course and several of my friends ordered various others like pud (pad) Thai and basil beef. All five of us agreed that the food was below par to other Thai restaurants in Atlanta.
Too cap off the below average food, the counter person receiving the payment was extremely rude. When we got the check, the billed seemed much more than what we expected. We asked the counter person to recalculate the bill. She stated, Why are you being so cheap?!" We were flabbergasted by the comment. After recalculating the bill, the actual bill came out to be $20.00 less than the original bill. The counter person glared at us and stated that they would have to add automatic gratuity because we had 5 people. Automatic gratuity for only 5 people? I never heard of such a thing.
This may have been an isolated incident and perhaps on a regular basis, their service is good. But after this incident, it would be safe to say that we will never be going back to this place. If you're looking for very good Thai food, this place it not the one. You have many other alternatives than this.
Best Lunch Value in Norcross!. It started off small back in the days and it expanded but the food has not changed and the service is very friendly. Its definitely a family run business - they are all very nice! I usually do lunch and what a deal..a whole plate of basil fried chicken or drunken noodles fills you up. It accompanies the soup of the day either lemon grass or coconut chicken soup or you can opt out of soup and get a spring roll or both if you ask. My favorite is the coconut chicken, its probably best soup i have ever had, it just isn't coconut milk with chicken thrown in. Its got the right blend of tang and sweetness. I hae to stop myself from eating here everyday for lunch. The best Thai in ATL!
Best Basil Chicken since 1995!.
I lived/worked just of off Jimmy Carter Blvd (the JCB) and our office would always get Taste of Thai's "Basil Chicken". All who have the opportunity to savor this dish, will be in for a wonderful treat. I've sinced moved away, and have eaten at many different Thai restaurants from one coast of the United States & Canada to the other. I can honestly say, that Taste of Thai's Basil Chicken is a unique dish in and of itself, and every time I visit Atlanta for business or pleasure, I always make sure I "check in" and get at least one Basil Chicken order to go. :)
Also, order a glass of Thai Iced Tea. I've ordered Thai Iced Tea from Vancouver to Manhattan, and all major cities in between. Taste of Thai's Thai Iced Tea has no match, as far as I have been able to tell. :-)
My favorite Thai.
I don't get outside the perimeter much anymore, but when I do, I always stop at Taste of Thai. I order 2 meals each time so I can enjoy it the next day. Lunch is the best time to go - very good pricing for a lot of food.
Their Taste of Thai Squid is my favorite.
