Not sure where the value is

9 years ago I took my vehicle in for work to repair what a thief had done to the door (hole punch) and center console - ripped out the stereo and bent the frame. Magnum did an ok job on the door, but awful on the console. When I went to pick up the vehicle, the frame was still bent and the stereo crooked. I argued about it - the rep said ohhhh that's as straight as we could get it or else we'd have to swap the whole dash and frame! Uhhhh yeah... so DO IT... that's what I paid my insurance premiums for. I said forget it and left and made it straighter myself. No matter to them, they got paid either way.
Foolishly (after reading some good reviews [perhaps decoy planted reviews]), I went back recently for a paint quote. I tried to get a quote via the phone but the rep said he needs to see the vehicle in person. I told him the year, make, model of the vehicle.
I get there and the rep looks at my vehicle. Blah blah, oh EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS.
Yeah, they want EIGHT GRAND to paint a vehicle. A small sports car. He said that's the cheapest. No, he did not seem high from the paint fumes.
So I wasted an hour to visit when he could of advised me on the phone that they only do work for rich people, dumb insurance adjusters, or think the job I request won't be profitable and discard my business?
Well I guess the business model works for them - they have about 10 people working in their lobby. I guess those salaries must be paid somehow...
Sigh.
- Pros: well-staffed
- Cons: exorbant prices, slack work

We won't be returning as customers.

While Magnum Collision does excellent body work (as evidenced by the high end vehicles that sit on their lot, awaiting repair), we have had two issues on two separate visits. The first was when we took our car for an estimate and repair. We decided to go with Magnum Collision as we had had good luck with them in the past, and the estimate was slightly lower than others. Once they began the repairs, they called to inform us that the cost would almost double. While we understand that sometimes unforeseen repairs arise, for the cost to double is ridiculous. There was no valid explanation for the price increase, so I wonder if it wasn't a bait and switch maneuver. More recently, my husband dropped off his work vehicle for repairs. He realized when he got home that his change had been stolen out of the vehicle. While it was only $10 to $15, the person who took the change took the time to take the quarters, nickels, and dimes, but left the pennies (humorous, but ridiculous). If someone is dishonest enough to steal change, what else are they taking out of these vehicles? When I called to report this, (on principle, not for reimbursement) I was told that 1. they had never had that problem before, 2. they couldn't verify this actually happened, and 3. that there was nothing they could do, but they were sorry. After two untrustworthy/dishonest incidents, we will not be returning as customers, and would caution others to think twice before hiring this company.
- Pros: Excellent repair work
- Cons: Dishonest pricing, dishonest employees
