Kansas-based restaurant started in 1972 entices 30-somethings and families with a flashy menu, inventive drinks and chic, but accessible, decor..
In Short
Considered a founding father of American casual dining, Houlihan's transformed its once-kitschy decor and meat-and-potatoes menu into a contemporary restaurant serving eclectic cuisine. Geared toward a slightly more upscale crowd, warmer colors and modern art adorn the walls, while Indie rock tunes and a patio leading to a walk-around bar remind you that you're not in Kansas anymore. The globetrotting menu juxtaposes classic burgers and wings with innovative selections like tuna wontons and herb-cheese stuffed mushrooms.
Nice family restaurant.
I agree it is about a step above an Applebee's or Chili's, I liked it better than those though.
I took my two kids under 3 yrs old, and it was great, they had lots of choices for the kids, and it
was loud enough that any squeaks my kids made, weren't even noticed by the people near us.
They also seemed to have a nice little bar area, I didn't check it out but it looked like a nice
happy hour spot. The food was good, the staff was friendly, service was quick ( it was a Thursday night when I went, not sure what weekends would be like ) Overall,I would recommend trying it out.
Awesome appetizers, lots of specialty drinks. I worked here as a server and have eaten here several times. From a behind-the-scenes perspective, the restaurant is very clean and the food is fresh. All of the servers are required to go through training where a specific routine must be learned and then followed. The food is delicious, with a huge menu that can't be categorized under any one type of ethnic cuisine. If you eat here, be sure to order an appetizer--they are most famous for the spinach dip and shrooms.
