Horrendous Atmosphere.
On a visit to Atlanta, I visited the Book Nook in Decatur with a few friends. I was immediately struck by how loud and obnoxious the older clerk was. I was in the store more than 30 minutes, and this employee (owner?) spent the entire time ---in a very loud voice--- spewing out his political views that became so annoying and distracting that I put my selections back and my friends and I left the store. Ridiculous political tirades againt President Obama, former President Carter, Vice President Al Gore, against working women in general...on and on. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinions, but it is bad form for a representative of a retail establishment to rail on loudly endlessly about his or her political beliefs no matter what side of the aisle one sits.
Listening to how Iran should have been bombed with nukes back in 1980 was ridiculous. Then to hear him talk about how his wife never dares to complain about being given his opinion was almost surreal. I don't know but I suspect this man must have been the owner. I tried to tune him out, but he is LOUD and barely pauses to take a breath.
Besides books, this discount chain features CDs, comic books, audio books and movies..
The Scene
Like Alice navigating wonderland, you'll feel as if you've entered another dimension at this discount chain store. Volumes of books, CDs, comics and more are all stacked throughout the store with a friendly, albeit untrained, staff on hand to help you sort through the madness. A sofa gives the place a cozy feel, but since it's the only spot to sit--and not a latte in sight--save the lounging for Barnes & Noble.
The Goods
Nearly anyone can find his or her fancy at a discount. The music section stocks rock and classical CDs, all under $10. Film pickings vary from summer blockbusters to edgier fare. Find stacks of comic books, new and used, with action figures to go with them. As for books, there is no specialty unless "generalist" counts, so feel free to sort through everything from sex and sci-fi to Cliff Notes and children's books.
