Tips for Sonny's Real Pit BBQ

October 06, 2008

Inexpensive barbecue is the main draw at this reliable Southeastern chain.. In Short
Owner Sonny Tillman has been serving the same Southern barbecue and fixings since 1968. A common roadside stop, Sonny's offers low prices and barbecue; roomy booths, wagon-wheel chandeliers and homey craft art are the standard dining room decor. House barbecue sauce, available sweet, regular or hot, spices up large helpings of smoked beef, pork, chicken, turkey and ribs. Sides like fresh fried okra, onion rings and barbecue beans complement the entrees.

Best Baby Backs in Town!. It's now 2008 and this Sonny's is probably the best in ATL. The GM really cares about the quality of food and takes a personal interest in every order. Their baby backs are second to none.

I spent 25 years in food service management and I would highly recommend this particular Sonny's.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!. The food was the nastiest food I've had in a while. It was totally greasy, including the garlic bread, which sat in a puddle in the styrofoam container. The ribs (also extremely greasy) were so overcooked, they were black and hard, and my dog would not/could not eat them. In terms of value - what a rip! I paid $7.05 for 3 ribs, 2 pieces of bread, a tiny condiment-size cup of cole slaw, and a potato. Literally, the only edible part was the potato, even though it too, was overcooked.

Oh Please.... Sonny's BBQ is a pitiful excuse for BBQ. It's honestly the worst BBQ there is in Atlanta. It's just sad, it smells so good and then you become horribly disappointed with the food. It's worse than cafeteria food and the beans taste like they use bad onions. It's just a shame.
