Quaint old house turned bookstore in Cumming has a focus on local history..
The Scene
Browsing for books in an old brick home with hardwood floors and a large wood-burning fireplace adds a cozy dimension to a traditional bookstore experience. The community feel is exactly what Humpus Bumpus founder Paul Cossman aims for in his completely independent store. He not only provides a huge selection of quality new and used merchandise, but also caters directly to the local community by hosting book signings (prominently featuring local authors), throwing birthday parties for kids and promoting in-store book fairs.
The Goods
In keeping with the building's original design, books are found in each subject-appropriate room: cookbooks in the old kitchen, auto repair books in the garage and romance novels in the pink-walled former bedroom. The store's specialty is local history, and its front living room is devoted to local authors and genealogy. Throughout the store, used books are shelved right alongside their newer counterparts.
