“But the atmosphere is so overwhelmingly unpleasant (including a rather large brown insect scuttling across the floor) that it overpowers everything else about it.”
“When we finished he recommended a desert but did not take off any of the diryt dishes we said no thank-you and left.”
“Service was slow and some never got their drinks.”
“The worst food I ever had service was bad food was horrible will not be back.”
“previously looked at some editorial about this so-called fabulous, pizza and Greek food joint, and since I just moved in the area and enjoy a good pizza pie and great Greek food, I thought this place would be the answer.”

“when we entered we were greeted and shown to a booth when our server finally got there he seemed in a hurry to get us to order he said he was greek and made a few suggestions then hurried off we asked for dressing on the side but he put the dressing on th”
“think it was the one that moved from Chamblee, which was admittedly not as good as the Decatur location, but still worth a trip and in Chamblee with over 100 resturants that is a compliment.”
“Went in to eat and had a bad experience service was slow food was bad ordered a large cheese pizza when it came it was greasy and bland and burnt on the bottom also ordered a greek salad which was swimming in dressing I am not a student I am just giving a”
My cousin and I got their Hot Pastrami sandwich. I noticed it was not very good. Upon looking their was only 2-3 thin slices of Pastrami in the sandwich. How they could put this out I'll never know. I will go to Jason's Deli or get a Rubin at Arby's next time. I told my family I will not frequent Athens Pizza when we all go out. I've been going to Athens since it opened, many, many years ago . It breaks my heart to see the decline.
Greek Cusine.
You need to enjoy and appreciate true Greek food to like dinning at Athen's. YaYa,teaches her staff how to prepare greek food the right way. We do not live close or would dine here often. We do go when in town.
Of course we are greek ,I teach greek cooking at a local community college and perhaps can enjoy food from the old country more than others. The service is slow sometimes but the place is usually packed at that time.
Great atmosphere too.
OK pizza, overcooked gyro meat.. The food is decent. Probably the best thing I've had there is the mediterranean pizza. Their tzaziki is excellent, and I love gyros, but every time I've ordered one, the gyro meat is way overcooked.
Be Careful What You Order.
I've always found Athens to be consistent - not great, but consistent in service and food quality. On Saturday ordered an eggplant parmesan sandwich, and when it arrived took one bite to determine it wasn't eggplant. When I showed the waitress that I thought it was meat not eggplant, she put her face down to the dish, declared it eggplant, but just cooked to a crispy stick. I ended up just pulling it off my sandwich and having the bread and sauce. When the bill came, I was horrified to see it said "veal parmesan" - I haven't eaten veal in 34 years and was literally sick to my stomach. When I showed her that she had put in the wrong order, and that I don't eat veal, her reaction was "you're not going to get sick from that one bite are you?" And I ended up paying for it!
That has probably ended my trips to Athens because there are at least two other Greek restaurants I pass along the way. . . .
A long time favorite of mine.
Having grown up in Decatur, Athens Pizza will always hold a special place in my heart. It was actually the first pizza I ever had outside of my mother's homemade pies. So with that said, understand you are reading a biased review.
I've tried a few of their Greek specialties over the years, but I always come back to the pizza. I love the slightly sweet and flaky crust, and while some might characterize it as too greasy, I wouldn't.
The Athens Special is always a favorite for sharing among groups, but I tend to be a pick-your-own toppings kind of guy. I'll switch it up every now and then, but my mainstay is gyro meat. Where else can you get that on a pizza?
In regards to these so called "Atlanta Pizza Wars", Athens would probably get overlooked by most. The Greeks haven't much for battles since the BC times anyway and my guess is Mrs. Papadopoulos has never heard of Jeff Varasano.
Not the place to go for a party... or food with taste.. I checked out this place a month ago for an anniversary party of 30. I was told we would have the "party space" for the evening and we would have multiple servers. When we got there only one server (Nancy did her best) was assigned for the group. Service was slow and some never got their drinks. It took over an hour to be served. Even though they were responsible for the delays, we were told we needed to be out in 45 minutes because another apparently "more important" group was coming in. I can now tell you how to have gifts, cake and fun in 30 minutes or less. The food is nothing special and apparently the owners feel the same about customers. The other parties planned for our group activities will obviously be held someplace else... maybe Target's food court; we'll get better service and food.
OKAY , AVERAGE food. bad bad service mix with good food left my stomach satisfy with a little disgruntled feeling.
a local favorite for many years. I've been eating at Athens Pizza for many years and have found the food and service to be consistently good. I like the lunch specials, especially the baked spaghetti, and the seasoned Greek potatoes served with the gyro and souvlaki platters. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.
Greatest place to eat in Decatur. I would be greatly delighted to see all of you spoiled and coddled trust fund Emory and Agnes Scott students take your business into the over-rated and over-priced Buckhead dinning spots and let the locals enjoy this wonderful restaurant that has thrived here before you were even born. Athens Pizza is THE BEST!
Bad service, bad food..
My friend and I went here for dinner and asked for a gryo wrap to be put on the sub bread, because I do not like the pita bread. The waitress told us the cook would not make it. I thought this was amazing, I have never been to a restaurant where they would not accomidate the customers.
When I got the gyro, it was not very good. I was disappointed.
I would greatly recommend Athens Kouizzina off pleasent hill road, they have much better food and service
