On August 27th 1966, John and Asiemoula Papadopoulos opened the first Athens Pizza in a little town called Putnam, Connecticut. Everything was homemade, from the meatballs to the tomato sauce. In 1977 John and Asiemoula opened their first Athens Pizza in Decatur and it has been a local favorite ever since. Over the course of the years the food has not changed and neither has the spirit of the founders. The same delicious recipes are still used today, over 25 years later. You still feel as if you are eating in their home. When you walk through the door the family spirit emanates, you can taste…

In Short – A back wall mural depicts coastal Greece. Emory students unwind in vinyl booths while parents take their cheese-drooling children for a family night out at this neighborhood restaurant. The Americanized Greek dishes, such as spanakopita, are your best bets. Moussaka is a competent rendition of Greek shepherd's pie. Pizzas with heaps of fresh, semi-gourmet toppings are popular despite ample grease. Baklava is sweet, but lacks pistachios and flakiness.
a local favorite for many years

I've been eating at Athens Pizza for many years and have found the food and service to be consistently good. I like the lunch specials, especially the baked spaghetti, and the seasoned Greek potatoes served with the gyro and souvlaki platters. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.
- Pros: good gyros, moussaka
Greatest place to eat in Decatur

I would be greatly delighted to see all of you spoiled and coddled trust fund Emory and Agnes Scott students take your business into the over-rated and over-priced Buckhead dinning spots and let the locals enjoy this wonderful restaurant that has thrived here before you were even born. Athens Pizza is THE BEST!
- Pros: Great food, friendly service
- Cons: spoiled college students turning up their nose
Bad service, bad food.

My friend and I went here for dinner and asked for a gryo wrap to be put on the sub bread, because I do not like the pita bread. The waitress told us the cook would not make it. I thought this was amazing, I have never been to a restaurant where they would not accomidate the customers.
When I got the gyro, it was not very good. I was disappointed.
I would greatly recommend Athens Kouizzina off pleasent hill road, they have much better food and service
