The Scene – Arts and crafts twinkle on light yellow walls at this Emory-area institution where friendly servers efficiently accommodate patrons dining beneath exposed brick arches. Traditional guitar and keyboard-accompanied ballads entertain larger crowds on Friday and Saturday nights. – – The Food – Poblano chiles relleno (when in season) and hearty chicken mole are a couple of the best dishes on this Mexican menu. Salsa is typically mild; the guacamole could use a dash more of seasoning. Jalapeno pinto bean soup has a smoky fullness from bacon, but little bite.…

What the h*ll happened?

by jksteacher at Citysearch

We haven't been to MCG in a couple of years, so maybe things have been changing for a while, but we could not be more disappointed. The place used to have more ambiance, but now you mainly notice the significant water damage to the ceiling tiles and walls. The men's restroom was really grimy, looking like it hadn't been cleaned since the original Cinco de Mayo in 1862. The women's restroom had severe water damage, with noticeable and widespread water damage on the walls. There is also a hole in the floor so large that you can see the dirt from the ground underneath the restaurant. What is most disconcerting is that the bathroom is right next to the kitchen, making the food pretty suspect in our minds....

And as for the food, it was not at all what we remembered from years gone by. They used to have very good and flavorFUL food. We ordered enchiladas and carnitas, but I've had better flavor at Moes or Willys... and for much less.

I'm hoping MCG had a bad night, but it will be many more nights before we return.

  • Pros: Chips & guac were good
  • Cons: Ambiance, food, cleanliness

Best Margaritas/Mexi food in Atlanta

by Steever at Citysearch

I travel for work and eat Mexican several times a week all over the SE. When I want good fresh margaritas, not the sour mix kinds you get at most mexi joints, I go to Mexico City Gourmet. The good drink & cheap pitchers of beer; coupled with the great food and service is what keeps me coming back. Place is family owned and it shows in the food and attitude. You feel like you are in "Cheers" when you walk through the door. Some highlights are the Jumbo Texas margarita, Aztec Nachos, steak taco pablano, and the quesadilla especial. Lunch is cheap and same size portions as dinner, but even dinner won't break the bank. I would check it out if you are anywhere around Decatur or Emory.

Great Local Spot

by rocbrown at Citysearch

I recently had dinner at MCG and loved it. This was my first time in. Mexico City was recommended to me by a friend who has lived in the neighborhood for years.she told me it has been in buisness for 26 years OMG!!! One bite from my Tacos al Pastor (pork and pineapple) and I was sold! The quality of food here is great(Guacamole is Super Fresh) and I will surley return.

P.S. the margaritas should not to be missed!

  • Pros: service,quality ingredients
