Editorial Review for Benedetti's Italian Restaurant – by Jane Garvey
The Scene
This small but comfortable restaurant is Old Brooklyn in its ambiance, with ceiling fans, heavily framed "old masters-style" art, and operatic arias filling the air. It's a locals' favorite: Young couples hold hands across the tables, neighbors converse over pasta, and folks savor the dining values. Service is friendly, knowledgeable and able to guide patrons toward the better dishes.
The Food
Everything comes swimming in sauce. Stuffed manicotti vanishes under a blanket of fairly average marinara. Flounder francese tastes fresh despite having been frozen, and remains crisp in its pool of lemon-cream butter sauce. Veal Marsala is loaded with flavorful mushrooms, but the dish gets lost in an excess of cream sauce overpowered with Marsala. Skip the over-breaded clams oreganata in favor of the very good crispy calamari served with--what else--tomato sauce. For dessert, don't miss the cannoli.

I was just finishing dinner last week at Benedetti's when the waiter informed me that the restaurant would be closing at the end of the year. The owners are turning it into a pizza place, so for all of you that will miss the garlic rolls and (my personal favorite) veal picatta, get in there before the 30th of December, their last day, for one last meal. Another old restaurant bites the dust.
Pros: Great food, great service, great old place
Cons: they're closing

We ordered take out from Benedetti's since we just moved to Atlanta and had yet to unpack our plates, silverware, and other kitchen equipment. This was perfect Italian comfort food! It wasn't fancy by any means -- just plain and simple, very traditional. The garlic butter rolls were warm and soft. The salad was fresh and I really liked the herbed dressing and all the goodies that came on the salad -- black olives, etc. For my entree, I had the chicken picatta with fettucine alfredo. The picatta had WAY too much sauce on it, but now I know to order light on sauce. The accompanying capers were quite yummy. The fettucine was soooo good... creamy, thick and flavorful. It was decadent! The only drawback was that the sauce separated when I reheated it, revealing just how much butter was used in its creation. But, delectable either way. My husband had the chicken cacciatore which was also very flavorful. We got a buy one get one 1/2 price from campusfood dot com, so that made our whole takeout meal about $22. Great deal for so much food. The restaurant itself was quite charming. Although located in a strip mall, it's got cute red pleather booths and was dimly lit with a great looking wine wall towards the back of the restaurant. We'll definitely be back for more.
Pros: intimate setting, traditional recipes, no fluff
Cons: located in an ugly strip mall
