What People Are Saying About Udipi Cafe

The Scene – Set on the southbound side of Lawrenceville Highway, this South Indian restaurant makes up for a lack of atmosphere with bountiful flavors. Booths and banquet tables line the large, white- and rose-tinted dining room, and a buffet line (only available at lunch) sits to one corner. An attentive--but not overly invasive--waitstaff adds to the experience. – – The Food – Traditional South Indian food is wholly vegetarian, fried yet greaseless. Appetizers lean toward crisp, spongy fritters of lentils and chickpeas. For an entree, try dosai, thin rice or lentil…
Editor's Tips
- Save Money:
- The buffet is a deal. Offered from 11:30am to 3pm for $6.95 on weekdays and $8.95 on weekends, it features dosai, curries, flavored rice dishes, appetizers and desserts.
- The Extras:
- An upstairs hall seats 50 and must be reserved in advance. Udipi also will cater at other locations.

Keep away

Went there for dinner at their new location on Church St. The food was greasy and awful, and the service was terrible. We are never going back to this dump again. I was sick after eating there.
Good, cheap Indian

My friend recommended this place and it is a great value and great food! I love the pancake-style dish filled with potatoes, onions, etc. This was my first experience eating South Indian cuisine and it was delicious. Don't go here if you're expecting the typical Indian curry. I'd say the only downside is the ambiance...and they didn't seem to have the heater on when I was there last time (cold winter night). Also service is kind of slow, and the servers don't really come back and check on you once they've given you your food.
we love udipi!

My husband and I and all our friends love Udipi Cafe. We go for birthday dinners, lunches, whenever we can. We often save room for dessert and go to the Middle Eastern place next door for dessert and belly dancing.
- Pros: food, interesting south indian dishes, very good serv ice
- Cons: none
Be careful all Indian restaurants are rated 4 or more on 5

There is no Indian restaurant that does not have a 4 / 4.5 star review. Pl be careful. We are an unethical breed of people and inflate our ratings. Least realising that all indian restaurants end up being 4.5 on 5. Pl use word of mouth and personal discretion to visit all of these restaurants.
I wish health and happiness in yr experimentation with food.
This restaurant has gotten great reviews but I don't know why.

The service was not very good - we had to ask for ice for a warm coke. There are much better vegetarian Indian restaurants - try Woodland close to N. DeKalb Mall. I've been here twice and will never go back.
- Pros: Not hard to get a table
- Cons: Small parking lot. Bad service. Bad food.
