Spend plenty of time, not money, digging for treasures at this popular local record store..
The Scene
Hidden behind a blanket of posters in an unassuming Decatur strip mall, Wuxtry is the epitome of an independent record store. Given its wall-to-wall selection, shopping here is not for those short on patience, but the prices work for those who are short on funds.
The Goods
Enter Wuxtry and be greeted by row upon row of musty musts. In an effort to conserve space, plastic sleeved booklets display CDs, both used and new. Glass display cabinets are stocked with box sets and deluxe editions. One wall holds bins of rock vinyl, while the back room houses a renowned jazz selection. Of course, keeping it all alphabetized is an Herculean task, and you have to be willing to flip for a while. However, the likelihood that you'll find something you didn't even know you wanted is higher than the prices.

My favorite shop.
The Decatur Wuxtry, serving the Emory community, is only inferior to the Athens location by comparison. This is still the place to go for Atlanta music and all sorts of esoterica. It's crowded, covered with handbills, packed, uncomfortable and absolutely beautiful in every way. Not kid-friendly. The staffers have the expected indie aura, but they've never once failed to show me courtesy in hunting down local stock.

Worth the trip.
I have two fine independent record stores within a couple of blocks from me, but when I want a real kid-in-a-candy store shopping experience I always make the drive to Wuxtry. Whoever stocks this place has great taste (IMHO) and the used selection is incredible (if only it were easier to look throught the used CDs!). Plus, the staff is a little more down to earth than the competition.
