Great experiences with almost every medical problem that you can imagine

by veggiemom at Citysearch

I have been going to EAAC and have had nothing but good experiences. Our cats & dogs have had a wide variety of complex medical issues (cancer, spinal problems, anemia, kidney disease, digestive problems, you name it!) and they have always diagnosed carefully and thoroughly. They start simply and work their way up to more complex diagnoses--they test appropriately, but not excessively. They also recognize that they are general practitioners and sometimes need to refer to a specialist. Dr. Ringstrom has also recently been certified in vet acupuncture, so that brings a nice holistic element to the practice. Dr. Ringstrom and Dr. Dunnings are excellent--I'm neutral on Dr. Starnes. Their techs are very professional, though sometimes there is turnover in the tech and front office staff. The "veterans" are terrific. Parking can be a pain with an animal, but it is a minor inconvenience for the value and care. The only thing that they have not been able to provide is ultrasound services. That would certainly be an added benefit so as not to have to travel to a specialist. However, though are not needed frequently, so it's only an inconvenience if you happen to have the collection of adopted older animals that I have. Overall, it's a great asset to pet owners and the community.

  • Pros: caring staff, value, convenience, holistic options
  • Cons: parking, no ultrasound

Their haste caused the untimely death of my dog

by mirabelaz at Citysearch

we brought our 7 year old dog in for her routine shots on a Friday afternoon. before the doctor did anything, we pointed out a few nodules on her front leg. the doctor said that it may be cancerous mast cell tumors but she will biopsy to be sure. she took a scrape of the nodules, and then continued with her exam where she vaccinated our dog and sent us home. the next day, our sweet girl was lethargic. by sunday - 48 hours later - she could hardly walk and wouldnt eat. i brought her back to EAAC first thing Monday morning where they kept her to give her fluids and x-ray her. at the end of the day, i returned to pick her up and the doctor gave me her x-rays and simply said that if she gets worse, take her to the emergency vet up on Ashford Dunwoody. No one helped me carry my 70 pound dog across the street to my car. By the time I made it home and my poor girl colapsed on the ground, I loaded her up and drove like a mad person to the emergency vet. they wheeled her in on a gurney and within 5 minutes she crashed and they tried to revive her to no avail. when we showed the vet the x-rays that EAAC took that afternoon, the doctor said that her whole body was filled with cancer and that she NEVER should have been vaccinated without running the tests first to determine what her nodules were. he said that introducing the vaccine made her immune system attack that foreign substance further weakening her ability to fight the cancer. granted, she would have passed away within the year but to the haste of EAAC forced us to lose her before she was really ready to stop fighting. the card that EAAC sent us with condolences was like a knife in the heart. we never went back with our other dog, and when we got him a new companion - she never set a paw in that place.

  • Pros: convenience
  • Cons: not thorough, not caring, not apologetic

Best vets in Atlanta

by nikkismom at Citysearch

Both of the vets at East Atlanta Animal Clinic are wondeful. My dogs are primarily seen by Dr. Dunnings because we have been going to her for years, even before she opened this clinic . I can't say enough about Andrea, she is an awesome vet, caring and gentle. She is, and has always been, so wonderful with our dogs as well as patient and understanding with us. She always explains every single thing down to the last detail in a way that makesit possible for the average pet owner to understand. Both of our dogs absolutey love her and no matter what procedure has to be done as long as she's doing it they're fine with it. The staff at the clinic is absolutely wonderful and help make the whole experience of a trip to the vet a good one for our dogs. I have and will continue to highly recommend EAAC to anyone looking for a vet.

  • Pros: great staff, good value, great service
