Editorial Review for Rue de Leon – by Jacqueline J. Holness
The Scene
Housed in a 1930s gas station, this is one of the largest stores in downtown Decatur. Glittery fabrics and trinkets draped over the walls and furniture create the atmosphere of a French boudoir. The smell of cocoa butter-scented lotion combined with fruity potpourri is reminiscent of a Parisian cafe. The Eiffel Tower is a part of each crowded room, from small stone coasters bearing its image to a five-foot wire replica of the structure.
The Goods
Shameless pampering is a theme here. Buy French laundry detergent with fragrances such as essence of lemon verbena, or opt for the rose or lavender-scented ironing water and fabric softener from La Bouquetiére. For the antique lover, French pieces, such as a late 19th-century armoire, are scattered about the room. New and old knicknacks sit atop rehabbed furniture, creating an eclectic shopping environment.
