Editorial Review for Cafe Alsace – by Suzanne Wright
The Scene
An inviting aroma and the strains of French music waft through this cozy bistro. Mustard and burgundy colored walls are scattered with an odd collection of French art posters, a bike, wooden shoes and berets. The intimate room is fitted with mismatched chairs and either tile-topped or linen-dressed tables. Speak in French and the service warms.
The Food
Portions are generous, but tastes are muted in this regional cuisine. Pate du chef is expectedly rich and creamy, and the tarte a l'oignon, an Alstatian onion pie, is souffle-light with a wonderful crust. Herbes de Provence and a five peppercorn vinaigrette punches up a simple salad and awakens the tongue. Spaetzle a l'alsacienne, a cheesy baked noodle dish with ham and onions, comes rather bland, but tender Boeuf Bourguignon tastes more robust. Honey-lavender ice cream drizzled with chocolate induces audible moans.

Cafe Alsace is a gem. A place I can count on for a special and authentic experience at Sunday brunch or any dinner. It's rare you find a place this open about the roots of its ambience in Atlanta as well. Try anything. I trust it will be prepared and served as it would be in Paris.
Pros: Food, service, atmosphere
Cons: None

WE arrived for breakfast/brunch and were greeted by a sloppy waitress that told us to hang out on the sidewalk (very cold that day). We received friendly but entirely incompetent and slow service. 15 minutes for coffee; another 15 to take our order; never received refills on coffee or water; took almost 45 minutes after we were finished eating and staring at dirty plates to get her attention to bring the check; another 20 minutes for her to take our payment. AHH!! The terrible service was almost comical. The place needed more waitstaff, as there were 2 servers for about 12 tables. However, the two spent most of their time chatting in the back while every table looked irritated and impatient. The food was really good. I ordered an omelette with very tasty potatoes, my gf had the french toast which was thick and very sweet. The mini-crossaint plate is also very good. Other than extremely disappointing and exasperating service, the location, atmosphere, and food (very reasonably priced) are worth returning for.
Pros: Food, atmosphere, location
Cons: service, small space
