Would be organic heaven except....the horrid smell of the whole place!

I finally was able to convince my husband to take a 2 hour trip to what was supposed to be organic heaven... My mother in law went with us and we were all so excited. Then my husband let me and my MIL out at the door so he could park. One step out of my car and I almost did not go in. The place had the stranges, foulest odor that almost made me sick... My mother in law said out loud... This place stinks!!! It had what I could only describe as a fish and chemical smell. It was utterly gross. We went in anyway and the odor slightly lessened
and I did find many veggies, meats and pastries to go home with. However, when we got home, everything that was able to take in this odor had, such as the pastries and the breads. Also, the hedious smell would not leave my nose and everytime I open the baked goods the smell memory floods back to me. I looked this issue up online and many shoppers have called the market and complained to no avail. Will I be back? Probably, as the hamburger was probably the best I had ever eaten. But I WILL NOT buy any pastries, breads or cheeses that would be effected by the weird odor. I highly recommend that you do not as well.
- Pros: The awesome organic produce at below Whole foods prices
- Cons: THE DEKALB FARMERS MARKET FUNKY STINK!
Everyone should go here at least once!

It's a little bit of an overwhelming experience to shop at the Dekalb International Farmers Market, but it's well worth it. Almost everything I've bought there has been really good, and now it's a regular stop on my shopping rounds. My favorite things: herbs & spices in bulk plastic tubs for very, very low prices, the produce section is very educational (in March they had some "gi-normus" strawberries that were incredible), and the wide selection of cheeses. My favorite is simply the cubed extra sharp cheddar, which I eat as a snack or instead of dinner. The packaged baked goods are pretty good, but the bakery bar is much better. The only downside: weekends during the day, the place is packed and it's hard to get down the aisles because they're also stocking shelves. Go in the evening instead!
- Pros: exotic produce, fresh foods, discounted day old baked goods that taste just as fresh
- Cons: does not accept credit cards, stocking shelves during the busiest hours, employees not very friendly
Dekalb Farmers Market is a horrible place!!

Although the Farmers market has great produce and a nice bakery, I will never shop there again. They have the worst customer service. Most of the people that work their do not speak english and lack customer service skills. My mom came down from Phoenix and I wanted to show her the place, we bought a few things including spare ribs. When we got home my mom was washing the ribs and notice they did not smell good, within an hour we took them back but we did not have the receipt. We did have the sticker on it with the date and the label Dekalb Farmers Market. When we returned it we were basically accused of stealing and the rep at the front desk called someone from the meat department over and he came over smelled the meat and laughed and said there is nothing wrong with this. As if I am going to waste my time driving 20 minutes there when I have a newborn and my mother in town to get $8.00 dollars back. My mom yelled at the clerk and he called my mom a motherfu----. The security came and they gave us our money back. I have never been treated so horribly. I am going to stick to Whole Foods where customer are treated with dignity and respect.
