FIVE STARS FOR FLINSTONE RIBS, AND MORE.
Net-Net on this BBQ joint from my visit:
THE PROS: Enormous, meaty ribs, super creamy coleslaw, crunchy fried dill pickles, seasoned with "wow" onion rings that are sliced thin and melt in your mouth, brunswick stew for people who don't even like okra (in other words, there's okra in it but it's so good, you'll inhale it anyway), chopped pork plate that is not dry but fresh off the pit (aahhh).
THE CONS: Would love to see potato salad and fried green tomatoes added to the menu, along with some pies like chocolate chess or lemon meringue, would also like to see beer on tap.
As you can tell, I'm all about the food and washing it down with something special. I say give this joint a shot. Hopefully by the time you go they'll have added some of those pies I mentioned.
Texas-style barbecue and live blues in the heart of Alpharetta..
In Short
If you're hunting for barbecue, the good news is this rib joint radiates downhome appeal. It's Texas everywhere you look--walls and support beams thick with license plates and autographed dollar bills, saddles and trophy heads and throwback road signs. Popular beef, pork and baby back ribs are expertly smoked on-site and lightly sauced. Don't miss the chile or the Brunswick stew--and the jalapeno cornbread positively rocks.
BBQ, Entertainment, and Atmosphere.. I have been going to One Star for nearly two years now and I can tell you it is a great place to go. The staff are like family to me and the food is great. The entertainment has grown to nearly a nightly occurance and that is unheard of in this area. It has a great atmosphere and it's food provides a signature touch. From the brunswick stew to the "Flintstone" beef ribs it definitely make a name for itself. The parking is convienient even when they are crowded on the blues Friday and Saturday nights which they always are. They always have a great mixture of entertainment and an eclectic batch of locals which makes it a worthwhile place to visit on a regular basis.
A Place like Home.
I have been in Georgia for 5 years now, originally from Texas, The One Star Ranch in Alpharetta, Georgia is the closet thing I can call home. The Texas style BBQ is just like back home outdoor BBQ parties we used to have.
The staff is "Awesome". Friendly, courteous.
The Country Nights on Thursday is breaking the mold. Seriously if like great food, awesome music, rather it be Bluess(Friday and Saturday nights - with a small cover), or Country with some of the best local talent and some not so local talent from Nashville, then come by on Thursday nights. But, if you like a Martini that will make you cool, then come by on Wednesday nights and listen to some cool Jazz. Light music, great conversation, if this is what you like, then we will see you at The Ranch! (As it is known by the Regulars).
