“We love this place, as well as the location on Howell Mill, and the grand-daddy, Sundown Cafe on Cheshire Bridge, with Sargent George and the crew.”
“love their Enchiladas with red chilli or lemon cream, their soup, tacos, cheese dip, salsa, chips.”
“The menu is very limited (at least for lunch), the staff is VERY unfriendly, and no fountain drinks--overpriced can's only.”
“Enough has been written about the food - the tacos are, of course, great (fish taco is always rated among the best in the city) & they have some really good specials that are worth a try.”
“Good beer selection, yummy margaritas and friendly, efficient staff at both locations.”
“tried to make Taqueria a favorite restaurant of mine, but with each visit Taqueria became more and more a place that I disliked.”
“The customer service is so bad I will never go back (and that's after we gave them too many chances to improve).”
“Note to TDS owners/management, your staff rude treatment towards your customers is not warranted.”
“Great cheap food”
“The line is usually a bit long, but nothing a good margarita won't fix.”

The George isn't on the menu, but you can order it any day of the week: rice mixed with collards and beans. Yum.
For Heaven's Sake, Why?.
"Northern hospitality with Southern efficiency."
Avoid this Faux-ican disaster. The only thing authentic was my disgust.
We got such terrible and unjustified treatment here from the manager (as a group of people of color) that we thought the place might be run by bigots. Was ready to call the NAACP, until I read the citysearch reviews and learned that they are equal opportunity douchebags. And, seriously, the food is just "okay," at best. I don't see what the hype is about. Por favor.
This place is so not worth it. You'll get better food and much better treatment elsewhere. I can only explain this place's popularity as a successful psychological manipulation - making people think that if the lines are long and customers put up with abuse, the food must be good and the place is worth it. Trust me, it ain't. Don't fall for it.
Great Food, Not For Some People.
Do not bother to go here if you are a large group, have children, or expect to be waited on hand and foot. Depending on when you arrive you will most likely have to wait in line. This is not a place to lounge around at after you are finished eating. If you have a problem with any of these things, just accept that Taqueria Del Sol is not for you and stay at home so the rest of us who enjoy it don't have to hear you whine.
That said, the food is excellent, and the margaritas are some of the best in town. It is a fantastic place to grab a quick bite to eat.
Great food; Terrible service. I agree with other reviews - the food is always fresh and delicious. I don't even mind the lines so much. The main problem is the service. The hours are terrible as well. I arrived one night at 8:59 and was refused service...and it was a take out order....because they close at 9PM. The only friendly person I have found there is the young lady behind the register who takes the orders, cash, and hands out cups. Downtown decatur has only a few "fast food" restaurants. Actually, I can only think of McDonald's and Chik-fil-a, so make that 2 fast food restaurants. I think that's one reason Taqueria does so well: supply and demand. In spite of what others say, there's no need for the staff to be rude and arrogant. They are in a food service business. I don't think a smile and friendly demeanor are too much to ask for. What they need is a little competition.
Rude management/wait staff. IF it was solely based on food, I would've given it at least 4 stars....However, the service was HORRIBLE! A friend and I sat at the bar and ordered a $30 pitcher of Margarita. We were still on our first glass when an employee from the Decatur location (perhaps the infamous ROBERT mentioned in the previous post) rudely told us to go sit by the window so that other customers could sit and EAT where we were sitting. Are you kidding me? Where do they think they can get off treating paying customers like that? Last time I checked, a bar was for having drinks. WE eventually sat at a table after ordering food and literrally felt "policed" the entire time. I will definitely report this incident and make my complaint heard loud and clear. In hard times like these you would think patrons would be going out of their way to deliver great service. Not so much at this location. Maybe you are better off going to the Howell Mill or Cheshire Bridge locations instead.
UNBELIEVABLY RUDE MANAGER- (ROBERT).
I dont like to ever leave bad reviews, but when I was told to "get the f@#k out", I was a little angered- no I was steaming mad.
My friend and I were having a drink at one of the bar tables watching a football game (2 females; had'nt been there for 15 minutes and sitting quietly)and the manager, Robert, said that we had to leave because there were other people that wanted to sit down at this table and eat. I said that we were paying just like those who were eating (probably more with our drinks than the tacos cost), and his order to us was to wait for a seat at the bar to open. I said that I didnt understand and that he was being a little rude- his words to me were "get the f@#k out". He snatched our drinks from our hands and went to the bar and asked the bar for our money back and literally walked us out the door. They were not even that crowded.
Even If he had even been slightly professional about the manner, and asked us nicely or had offered us another table or something, I would not be so upset. But the fact that he demanded us to leave AND cursed while pushing us out the door was totally unacceptable. I will report him!
Good food, terible atmosphere and service.
We stood in line for 20 minutes to order food in Decatur. The line was out the door so we figured we arrived at a good place. The menu was very limited but different. I order a brisket taco and a chiken taco. The brisket was very good. The chicken was dried out and stringy. I flagged down a food deliverer and asked if they could replace the taco with a fresh one and it was like I took a knofe and stabbed someone.
They brought a new taco, dropped it on the table and left. It was just as bad. Still hungry I wanted another brisket taco but the line was even longer and futher out the door. I asked the server if I could get a taco without waiting another 20 minutes and the answer was "no, I can;t get you one, you need to stand in line with the other guests".
We left and will never go back!
Cheap and Good. The food is excellent, very authentic and inexpensive. The margaritas are the best. The fish tacos are my favorite. The only problem is you have to stand in line for your food and it can be very croweded. But it is worth the wait.
Staff's rude behavior towards customers is uncalled for !. In reading City Search?s review guidelines, they request that these reviews be written candidly and as if you?re speaking to a friend. Well friend, based on my experiences I will not be going back to Taqueria Del Sol. There is no good reason why the staff has to be so rude to costumers. My last visit to TDS was the final straw. Confusion between the food brought to our table and what we actually ordered prompted me to motion a Staff member to our table. Man! The entire time I was talking, the Staff member just glared at me. He then turned his head mumbled something then walked off. My date was livid! I knew better than to pursue it because I know how these guys can get. But seeing my dates frustration turned the light on for me! I can?t be subjecting myself, or my friends to this type of treatment. Note to TDS owners/management, your staff rude treatment towards your customers is not warranted. If you were running a cafeteria inside a maximum security prison your staff?s behavior MAY make sense. But you are not! You have lost my business !
Possible Problem in Peppers. I went to Taqueria del Sol a few weeks back and got the worst stomach problem ever. After a few nights in the hospital, I was told it was probably something from peppers eaten a Taqueria del Sol. Avoid this place!
quick and in a hurry. Even though the restaurant is PACKED on weekdays during lunch time, people eat and go pretty quickly. The service here is quick. People are constantly on the run. I was surprised how full I got with the amount I spent. If you're looking for quick, cheap Mexican food this is it. They have 3 locations that I know that I know of. Cheshire, Decatur, and Midtown. Located in 3 busy areas, it's good to just order and eat somewhere else sometimes!
