Editorial Review for Taqueria Del Sol – by Michael Longshore and Ginger Massey
The Scene
The boutique tacos known by name across Atlanta now inhabit an abandoned Decatur service station. This location has the same urban look as the original: stainless steel tabletops, exposed ductwork and gleaming garage doors. Wooden bowls of oranges, beachy-looking azure cinder block and jewel-tone tequilas add a California feel. Sit in the narrow, space-age breezeway for more airy, semi-outdoor dining. You can expect more families--and the same patient, expectant line--at this address.
The Food
Authentic Mexican flavors abound. Opt for popular hickory-smoked pork tacos with barbecue sauce and coleslaw, or addictive fried chicken tacos with lime-jalapeno mayonnaise. Also, try straight-up carnita-style pork with salsa frita, or roasted brisket laced with tangy chile de arbol. Enchiladas are solid cantina fare. Don't miss a side of nicely spicy turnip greens or rich, smoky charros beans. The fresh salsa trio goes hand-in-hand with tequila-heavy margaritas.

I went to Taqueria del Sol at the recommendation of a friend and had an awful experience. I waited in line for 45 minutes to place an order. When I finally made it to the register, the guy taking orders was rude at best. We then went to find a table and all were taken. After waiting another 15 minutes, we were seated but then received cold food. To top it off, my friend's enchilada had what looked like a maggot in the sauce. When we complained, the waiter asked us to leave. We left gladly and never to return!
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Maggot

Even though the restaurant is PACKED on weekdays during lunch time, people eat and go pretty quickly. The service here is quick. People are constantly on the run. I was surprised how full I got with the amount I spent. If you're looking for quick, cheap Mexican food this is it. They have 3 locations that I know that I know of. Cheshire, Decatur, and Midtown. Located in 3 busy areas, it's good to just order and eat somewhere else sometimes!
Pros: price, food
Cons: crowd
