Classic retro furnishings groovy enough to convert the most die-hard traditionalist.. The Scene
This dot-com merchant with a worldwide following has opened its U.S. flagship boutique on the ground floor of the chic 805 Peachtree Lofts. Throughout the industrial, loft-like store are eye-popping sets--like a panel of illuminated Lite-Brite boards and a prominent two-story wall of semi-spherical mirrors. The eclectic wares are displayed on glass shelves, cubbyholes and pedestals. Alessi products are displayed in a separate linoleum-tiled room. The brightly colored mosaic walls and pale-yellow shelves of the room perfectly display the Italian design company's funky housewares.

The Goods
Major icons such as Bertoia, Aarnio, Eames and Noguchi are represented. Furniture, lamps, home and office accessories range from minimalist steel to campy plastic. Alessi's designs are so irresistible that you'll crave useless gadgets like egg cups, toast racks, nutcrackers and funnels.

Store within a store. The Alessi section of Retro Modern--a colorful little tiled store within the main store--never fails to produce great gift-giving ideas. While the Alessi line isn't cheap, its wares are memorable and fun. The Allesi toothpaste and toothbrush holders and the bottle openers are both cute and inexpensive, the perfect last-minute gift.
