Not the Best – I have been to this location on several times and each time is a different experience. It is a very small place and that makes for a long wait. The best time to avoid a wait is late at night. The food is not the best and the service is even worst. There are several iteams on the menu that are good and there are a few that are just plain nasty. The chicken and waffles are not the best, but the sweet potato cheesecake is wonderful. The parking lot next door wil charge you $6.00 to park, but the resturant has a parking lot in the back that is fee of charge, you just have to walk a little ways. If you are not very hungry and have time to wait, take a chance if you are in a large group and everyone is ready to eat you may want to try some where else.
GLADYS AND RON - U 2 SHOULD B ASHAMED!! – On Saturday 02/07/2009, My 2 daughers, myself and granddaughter (1 year) took a trip to Atlanta for the first time. We ALL had to try Gladys Knight Chicken and Waffles. WHAT A MISTAKE. It was by far, the WORST part of the trip. I was so so so disappointed. THIS IS NOT SOUL FOOD. We waited an hour before asking if our name was coming up, to find out we had been CROSSED OFF the wait list. We were then seated. It was a rather SPECIAL experience, i.e., some of the wait staff were very very special (YELLOW BUS SPECIAL). We were excited about the experience, wanted to get a feel for everything on the menu. BIG MISTAKE. The MIDNIGHT TRAIN had missed a couple of stops (and was the only item on the menu that came with a waffle, no seasoning on the chicken, and my son who does not know how to cook could have made a better waffle. The other review was so correct, DRIED OUT AND BURNT MACARONI & CHEESE, The GREENS were not thoroughly cooked, and tasted like leaves (no flavor), the YAMS were also TASTELESS, NOT SWEET, NOT THOROUGHLY COOKED -- Gerber baby food tastes better. I thought I was ordering mashed potatoes and gravy (I know that's what I said), but I got this potatoe casserole that was just NASTY -- and too hot (spicey). I ordered CHILDS CHICKEN BASKET W FRIES for the baby. The fries were so HOT w PEPPER the baby started choking, and so did I. SWEET POTATOE CHEESE CAKE was just NASTY, not sweet, bland -- looked pretty though.
BOTTOM LINE: The price was too high, the portions were too small. This is just a gimmick. I can't tell you not to go, because it is a "tourist" attraction, but apparently "Gladys-N-dem don't expect return business." This is a ONE-SHOT-WONDER. I been and I will not be back again......
Over rated/over priced.....place would close without the name on the sign. – THE GOOD: Hostess was friendly, very nice person.
THE BAD: The food is not that good....a poor excuse for soul food. We ordered the "midnight train" and the "smothered chicken". Both dishes were weak at best. I have had better waffles at Ihop, better fried chicken at a dinner, and the Mac & Cheese was dried-out, burnt and should not have been served. I have had better service at an elementary school cafeteria.....Wait staff performance was well below average. The waitress got 3 things wrong on our order....and there were only 2 of us eating! Food came out in stages. Was going to order desert but chose not to after the poor meal and sub-par service. Also ordered a drink to go and the waitress got soda all over the entire cup...just set it down and walked away....very sloppy. A lot of the staff seemed arrogant and stand offish.........not all, there were some nice folks there. But I did not feel very welcomed or appreciated.
THE UGLY: Place was dirty (menus had goo and gosh know what else), seats were torn, and some?but not all?of the wait staff were rude. I went to the rest room, which is located by the waiter station, and had to ask the staff congregating in the back of the restaurant to move 2 times before they would stop their conversation to allow me the honor of using the restroom. I politely said excuse me and just got blank looks in return.
The people who gave this place 5 stars are either used to eating REALLY BAD food or are employed by Ms Knight.
I enjoyed my food. – I went here recently. I enjoyed my food, very filling. This place can really get busy. Its overall a good place for the money.
BEST EVER!!! MUST GO HERE!!!! – This restaurant is excellent! There was one review saying that they felt that had been treated badly beacuse they were white customers. Let me just say that this was not our experience at all! The hostess and seater were very polite and our server was excellent! She explained questions about the menu and suggested her favorite dish. She was right too. I had the Smothered Fried Chicken over white rice with mac n cheese and yams. It was honestly one of the best meals I have ever had. There was more than enough food on my plate. I got stuffed and couldn't even finish it all. But it was DELICIOUS. As far as the price goes, WOW! I would have not expected to get such a good meal for such a low price. My husband and I together spent $28 on our meal. It was the best decision. This is a very popular place. While we were waiting on our seat, several other people came in and had to wait as well. I can tell that this is a very welcoming place for tourists and locals. We were just in Atlanta for one night. I wish we could have stayed more and eaten here again!!
It was great!!! – I went to this restaurant for the first time last week and it was wonderful. I was visiting from out of town and was recommended to go here and loved the service and the food. I even had leftovers for later. The fried chicken is fantastic and the sweet potato cheesecake is absolutely delightful. Two thumbs up for this restaurant...I would definitely return!!!
Doesn't deserve even one star – Over the past year or so I have read many reviews about several restaurants. A few that I have come across have dealt with African Americans feeling that they were discriminated against in certain establishments because of their skin color. Now I have a review concerning REVERSE discrimination. A classmate suggested this place to me after we had a discussion about southern food and soul food. She knew that I was adventurous and open-minded. What probably didn't occur to her to tell me was that I should not eat at this place if I am a white person alone or with someone else who is also white. We were not treated very well overall. I can only say that the hostess was fairly nice who sat us, but no one seemed to want to wait on us at all. Several people walked by us without greeting us or asking us for our drink order. A male server that walked by gave us a rather disgusted look, indicating to me that he did not wish to serve us. That did it for me. Even though he spoke to us a moment later when he went to another table to wait on them, I could see that he was not sincere. Clearly this place should post on their website and post signs around as well that they will only wait on certain types of people. Had I been a person that they deemed to be cool such a celebrity with much, much money, perhaps they would have treated me so much better.
Worst Restaurant Experience in MY LIFE!!!!!!!! – CLEARLY THESE ARE GLADDY'S KNIGHT REPS WRITING THESE REVIEWS!!!
Since I had to give stars i guess I will give it 1 star. They should have an option where there are no stars. This is the worst Soul Food I have ever had in my life!!!!!!!! I went to Gladdy's spot with my boyfriend. The menu selections were pathetic first and foremost. It was ridiculously overpriced. $6 for 1 piece of fried chicken? The waitstaff was rude and unfriendly and I caught myself lookiing around for them because they rarely came to the table. My boyfriend's food came to the table in bits and pieces and when I finally got my food not only was it WRONG but it was COLD. I was happy it was wrong so I could send it back. I ordered chicken, dressing, and black eyed peas. Had to pay for cornbread??? What the??? That's like paying for water. Anyway, with my order the server brought out a piece of chicken with gravy splattered all over it and some cold black eyed peas. I him I wanted gravy on my dressing. He's like well dressing is like salad dressing or something.. So reguardless he was lying because if that were the case he would have thrown ranch dressing on my chicken!!! He should have clarified about the whole dressing thing because clearly I didnt want ranch dressing over my dressing I wanted gravy over "dressing" ..Any normal person would realize I thought it was dressing was likie the stuffing that goes in a turkey. So he takes the chicken back and literally 2 seconds later he comes back with another piece of fried chicken so clearly their food is sitting under busted lamps back there because that chicken was just as cold!!! but by then I was afraid to complain again but I wanted to just walk out. Then finally after it was all done 2 hrs later the waiter decides to come back to the table and had the audacity to ask how everything was. I told him terrible and he offered no type of sympathy or remorse. He didn't talk to the manager to see if he could discount the bill or anything. TERRIBLE
Stonecrest – There is a Ron and Gladys' at stonecrest and parking is never ans issue... It's just as good and the service is even better...
Soul Food Joint – Food is the bomb. I love this place. This food is great GREAT GREAT! Located near Verve night club. Parking can be hard to find
