Editorial Review for The Capital Grille – by Philip Malkus

The Scene
Georgia's outpost of this national chain has all the trimmings of a prototypical gentleman's club: a digital ticker tape flashing stock quotes in the bar, dark wood paneling, and deer heads mounted throughout the dining room. Windows offer a stunning--and rare--view of downtown Atlanta. Service is professional and unobtrusive.

The Food
The menu features by-the-book steakhouse presentations, which translates to pampered cuts of meat, mediocre starters and comfort food side dishes. The dry-aged steaks, including Delmonico, sirloin and a New York strip with Cognac-cream sauce, are each juicy and deeply flavorful. Seafood choices are uninspired, though monster-sized lobsters make an admirable alternative to beef. Rich mashed potatoes and nutmeg-tinged creamed spinach are standout accompaniments. For those diners who've managed to save room, key lime pie is a refreshing dessert.

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

It was my 42nd birthday and because this place was so highly recommended by a friend who visited a week ago, I ask my boyfriend to take me there. I wanted a different experience, and I got just that at Capital Grille. The Food was awesome and the service was just as good. I have been to numerous restaurants throughout the Buckhead corridor, and never have experienced such an excellent combination of service and great food. I strongly recommend anyone who is looking for a good evening at an upscale restaurant with a classy staff choose Capital Grille. This is the place to be.

Pros: Valet parking, great wine list, food and service

Cons: NONE

1 Star Rating: Not Recommended

When you go to a place with a price tag like this, you have quite high expectations. Capital Grille failed very highly in the service area. Not only were our reservations requests ignored, they placed us next to the waiters' drink station, so I was constantly bumped all evening and nearly had a tray of food dumped down my friend's back. The waiter took about 10 minutes at the start to tell us everything on the menu as if we were unable to read. The food runners were not polite and arrogantly deliverd the food after asking, "who had the salmon?"... I have gone to chain restaurants that know where the orders go. I had to beg for refills on our drinks. I was extremely disappointed and the food was good, but for that price, your high expectations will not be met. There are MUCH BETTER restaurants in Atlanta.

Pros: Amazing View

Cons: Everything besides the views
