If I close my eyes, I can pretend I'm in Italy....
Undoubtedly the best gelato in ATL.
Sure, Paolo has all kinds of sweet treats on display (I'm curious about the chocolate pyramids) but don't get distracted -- you want the gelato. I am passionate about the stracciatella gelato, which is like vanilla, only creamier and infused with bits of sweet chocolate. There are other flavors, but I need only one...
The first time I ever had stracciatella was in Italy, and I completely fell in love. Now when I want to remember those sunny days along the coast of Italy, I make the drive to Paolo's. Parking in VA-HI is a pain, but I guess it's easier (and cheaper) than a flight to Europe. And if I close my eyes, I can pretend I'm in Italy...

You must be kidding me ... Paolo's sucks..
The most overrated establishment in Atlanta. We just got back from 4 weeks in Italy and this "gelato" is not as good as the worst gelato we had in Italy (and we tried 5 different flavors). We also tried their Tiramisu and Profiteroles ... horrible too. Tiramisu tasted like congealed egg nog and the Profiteroles tasted like poor supermarket products. I cannot believe that anyone who ever had real Italian gelato would like this place. I would never bring my Italian friends here because they would hate it. I wanted this place to be good ... too bad. Baskin and Robbins, Ben and Jerrys have better desserts and are less expensive.

Not as Italian as he claims.
Any real Italian person (especially someone like me who grew up in the hart of Gelato) will tell you this taste nothing like real Italian gelato.... I found the ingredients were not fresh at all, gelato was overpriced and service was soo and soooo.....very disappointing......it seems to me they are cutting corners thinking perhaps that over here no one will know the difference....not so fast....
Paolo devi fare di meglio....

Fabulous gelato in the heart of the Highlands.
Tucked away in the adorable Virginia Highlands area, Paolo's is a quaint little shop specializing in Italian Gelato. Behind the gorgeous case of colorful gelato, you'll find a friendly face to help you choose the flavor of your choice, or sample a few if you can't quite decide. With choices ranging from Amaretto to Green Tea to Rosemary, it can be a tough decision, though, no matter what you decide I'm sure you'll be pleased. Stroll over to Paolo's after dinner one night and sample a gelato. You won't be disappointed.

I am not coming back..
Besides the rude lady who makes you feel like you're not even welcome in the store which is backwards, this place is the only place I know of in Atlanta that sells Gelato unless someone else out there can let me know.
As for the taste, I wouldn't say this is the best Gelato. It just doesn't have the creamy texture, and I wouldn't say this is authentic either. Given the taste/price, I personally don't think it's worth it and you would probably be better off at some regular ice cream place that charges less as well.
All this combined with the lady who was obviously irritated at me asking a couple questions, and it just makes for an overall unpleasant experience. Thus, I won't be coming back here again.

an ice cream store posing as a gelato store.
I was sold a scoop of ice cream for 5.50 that they tried to pass off as gelato.--------------------------------When I went there, there was a long line and the guy that owns it or whatever was behind the counter. He has a video playing of all these video clips from news channels and the food network coming to the shop. There is so much hype and since most people don't really know what gelato is supposed to be like they believe the hype and say its awesome gelato. In reality its just good ice cream.----------------------------------I think this guy makes real gelato for when he is being covered by the media, the customers come rolling in, he saves money by making ice cream instead of gelato, sells it for gelato prices (5 bucks), people unknowingly just accept that it is gelato and he makes a killing.-------------------------------If you want amazing real gelato then get on 85N and drive two hours to Greenville in SC and go to Luna Rosa:(web address) (lunarosagelato)

AWFUL SERVICE-cute decor.
I have been trying to go to Paolo's for the past 4 months; however, since their hours are so strange, it never seemed to work out. I had lunch at George's on Sunday and then remembered that Paolo's is right around the corner so I headed in for some yummy gelato. The decor of the store is soo cute that I immediately felt drawn in; however, the woman behind the counter NEVER acknowledged my presence and when I started asking her about the flavors, I got one word responses with not even a glimmer of a smile. The pistachio gelato was tasty..but definiteley not worth the $5 price tag or the poor service!! I will NOT be returning to Paolo's again. Too bad since it has such potential!

Fools the Eye- Overpriced and Unfriendly.
This place looks charming from the outside and on the inside. However, I was shocked that they have a one sample rule for gelato tasting. I've been lucky enough to have tasted lots of good gelato in Italy, and throughout the U.S, and have never seen a sign stating one sample per customer. Sampling the gelato flavors is normal. Also, Paolo's gelato was just good- not as creamy as others- just good. It certainly was not worth the $4.50 price tag. I went in January. They did not have that many flavors because demand was low during the cooler months. Hot chocolate is on their menu. I requested one and was told that they did not have any milk to make hot chocolate. So, I ordered a small Italian soda, which cost me $3.50. Soda water and flavoring. Note: Ask the cost before ordering because prices are not listed for their beverages. Actually, don't even bother going in. It is obvious that the owner is not involved in the business, which is sad b/c this place has potential.

Overpriced Publix Deli Fare.
The smell was fantastic, unfortunately the service was s$#* ! The server had terrible people skills and had the personality of a goat ! No interest in making a sale...save your time...you'll wig out trying to find a place to park and then have to take abuse off some minimum wage creton.
