Editorial Review for Rock City Gardens – by Melissa Jeffries
The Scene
Open to the public since 1932, Rock City and its touristy appeal endures today, with more than half a million visitors every year. Natural stone paths with names like Fat Man's Squeeze and Goblin's Underpass lead you through the "city" filled with oddly shaped rock formations, gnome villages and more than 400 species of flora and fauna. For maximum gnome appeal, visit the Fairyland Caverns where Day-Glo gnomes fill the coral-laden cave. The swing-a-long bridge is a favorite with kids and pranksters as it rocks liberally. Once across the bridge, Lovers Leap offers a view of a majestic waterfall and seven states.
The Draw
Rock City is Lookout Mountain's main attraction, but not the only one. Ruby Falls, Incline Railway, Battles for Chattanooga Museum and the Tennessee Aquarium are all hoping to lure the tourist in and make that day trip last a weekend.

I took my three kids to do the whole Rock City, Ruby, Incline, Aquarium, and IMAX trip. The entire trip was a blast! Rock City was always my favorite as a kid and it certainly didn't disappoint me as an adult. My friends thought my kids wouldn't like it (ages 9-14). They had the best time and are still talking about it and want to go back.
Pros: I bought a family package which was two nights in the Hampton Inn and all of the attractions. (Breakfast Included!)
Cons: Food at the attractions very expensive.

I remember Rock City and Ruby Falls, as a great place to go. Every year I traveled from my grandparents house in Virginia to my other grandparents in Alabama, we would stop at Rock City, every year, mostly because I begged to. Around 6, I remember being scared of the swinging bridge, and I would have to walk across the stone brige close by and fearful to look over the edge at Lookout Mt., I remember, my Mom bribing me with a t-shirt that had the gnome on it, if I would look over. I ran looked and ran back. :) But as an adult, a few years ago, I went back, it was just as glorious as I remember, this time I wasn't scared at all. I still have very fond memories and look forward to taking my son there in the near future. I highly recommend Rock City!!
