“The combo includes the burger, good crinkle fries, and a big styrofoam cup of sweet tea.”
“This is the best burger I have ever had.”
“great place”
“Anns not exactly rude but you better not give her any guff or she'll lower the boom on you.”
“She actually deep fries huge, thick slices of bacon right in the fryer with the french fries!”
“(when it first opens or between 2 & 3pm) Yes, she has a lot of rules, and you may spend 45 minutes waiting but the food is delicious.”
The Ghetto Burger might be the best burger I have ever had, and the messiest and most unhealthy...but so worth it!
Wort the wait. I was really skeptical, but I waited with my friends last week and it was totally awesome.
Give me a break. There is not a food on the planet good enough to put up with this garbage service.
Get over yourself and learn the rules!!LOL. Love the burgers and the ambiance. Love her for her comic relief and the burgers can't be beat!!!!
Place is filthy and the owner/cook/help are RUDE. Health Inspector you need to visit -
Worth Every Second!!!. I did hear you have to wait a bit to eat... but oh my God! How amazing is their food. Once you sit, the service is outstanding and the food miraculously delicious. I give this place 10 STARS and yes, RUN, DONT WALK
pretty good burger. This was my first time there. There was no wait and I got a seat right away. I am not sure if this is always the case on Wed. at 11:45, but it was true today. It took about 35 minutes for the burger to be done. It was very good, but I still prefer Casino el Camino in Austin. Next time I probably will not have the Ghetto burger - it is just too much. I will go without the second patty and without chilli.
Worth The Wait!!!. Waited in patio area for two hours and Miss Ann came in waiting area with her apron on and was introduced to Ambassador Andrew Young. We sat on booths and listened to conversation between them and ordered and it was an experience. They talked of politics and former celebrities that dined at Ann's Snack Bar. The burgers were simply delicious! Time slowed down while there, you got a sense of conversation, good food, and being a part of time gone by...I advise to go when you have no other places to be, but it's worth the wait!
Don't be scared!!!.
Reading the reviews of Ann's might leave you with mixed emotions, so maybe my review will help.
This place IS DEFINITELY a hole in the wall and in a area of town that I might think twice about entering after dark. She DOESN'T take anything but cash and can most definitely be surly in her demeanor. But with that being said.... go anyway!!!!
The experience is something to talk about as you will either be lucky enough to not have to wait for a seat, or be patient enough to wait for 45minutes to a couple of hours. I have only visited this establishment three times, and no time did I wait more than 45 minutes to enter. But be forewarned, the real wait comes after entering, because of her limited cooking space, she gets a little backed-up with orders and WILL NOT take more orders that what can fit on the grill (regardless of if you are seated inside or not). My last visit was a day that two patrons had orders of 6 Ghettoburgers each, and I waited over an hour after being seated inside for my order to be completed.
But while waiting, I talked with a great group of people while I waited (black, white, spanish and asian). Many first timers, some regulars, but we all had a good time whispering about what we had heard about the place or experienced ourselves. The best part was waiting for someone to break the rules and see how Mrs. Ann would react. Surprisingly, she did not respond as quickly or as furociously as I have read in past reviews. I was even tempted on my last visit to stir up a fuss to see for myself first hand this WRATH that is supposed to be so famous... but I didn't have the nerve... LOL
Bottom line... for a simple, well cooked, well seasoned burger... Ann's Snack Shop is VERY MUCH WORTH THE TRIP. If you are uptight, not very adventurous and on time restrictions, or are looking for exotic toppings... this is not the place for you. Go for the Ghetto Burger, go for the experience, and go for the fun of seeing who just might get cussed out for not following the 'rules' (which by the way are only old fashion courtesy).
