The Scene – A tiny open kitchen, a tinier bar and rows of dark, heavily varnished tables are all comfortably squeezed into this attractive shotgun space near the Cotton Mill lofts. Distressed support beams and rough, exposed brick combine with the usual assortment of Navajo artifacts and small Southwestern-themed prints to create a space that's inviting and warm. Service is attentive and extremely friendly. – – The Food – Familiar and upscale Southwestern dishes mostly succeed at this popular Cabbagetown spot. Highlights include tasty shredded pork tacos, comforting…

I've been going to Agave for going on 7 yrs. It's my fav place to go whether it's by myself (often) or on a date. The staff is always very knowledeable whether it's about the 100 different kinds of Tequila or their wide assortment of wines.
The restaurant uses the highest quality no hormone beef and chicken! No wonder it tastes sooo yummy.
And from what I know they don't use microwaves or freezers. Everything is fresh..
Do yourself a favor and go. Atlanta is lucky!
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: nono
A long time favorite

I've been going here for a couple of years and so far I've always really enjoyed it. This restaurant has a menu to suit a wide range of palettes and it's basically a short drive from about anywhere downtown so it's been a good spot to meet up with friends. My favorite appetizers are the ceviche martini and the chicken quesadilla, both of which are big enough to be a meal! I am also a huge fan of their fried chicken and the salmon filet.
Another recent review talked about smelling cigarette smoke which had me confused because Agave is a non-smoking restaurant. I have severe asthma and allergies and am highly bothered by the smell of cigarette smoke. I've eaten at Agave many times and sat at the bar, on the patio, in both dining rooms, and even up in the loft when my wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary. I've never smelled smoke in there ever.
As far as drinks, I'm not really a big tequila drinker but the huge selection of tequilas has enticed me to try a few of their margaritas and I've yet to be disappointed. Overall I'd definitely recommend this as a good meeting place before a game or event - just make sure you call ahead to let them know you're coming just in case there's a wait!
- Pros: Good food and variety, outstanding service, great drinks
- Cons: I wish they were open until 1am on the weekends.
Smoking, Really?

Food is delightful and the service is friendly and tip-top. That's the good. I came in on a friday night and was kindly greeted and sat quickly at a nice table (so I thought) upstairs. While I was eating, I saw the host go into what I think was the office and soon after I distinctly smelled heavy cigarette smoke coming from that door. Then he left to go back to the front door. It took a while for the smoke to subside, but my meal was already disturbed. Then the chef went in the same room upstairs and again the place stunk up with cigarette smoke through the whole upstairs area. We cut it short and left quickly after that due to our meal being completely ruined at that point. We even smelled the cigarettes downstairs near the kitchen when we were exiting. On our way out, we saw the tall thin girl who sat us talking to the bartender near the front door. I decided to ask the her who the host was and she said he was the manager partner. It surprised me that being in such a position he would brake the law and smoke with customers eating right next to his office. So, I pointed the other taller man out in the chef outfit and asked who he was. She said that he is the owner. I couldn't believe it, so I asked if they always smoke in that room upstairs. She shrugged a yes with no verbal comment, but the bartender rolled her eyes and answered, yes all the time. That says it all. Don't eat there if breathing cigarette smoke will ruin your meal like it did ours. What a shame with everything else being so enjoyable otherwise.
- Pros: Great foof, great service
- Cons: Cigarette smoke ruins everything else
