The Scene – Picture this: It's a perfect evening in May. A warm breeze blows, flowers are blooming and birds chirp sweetly from nearby trees. If you've always dreamt of an outdoor wedding, the Atlanta Botanical Garden is definitely a location to consider. There are several spots where the ceremony can be held, but the most idyllic is the Rose Garden, which is equipped with the requisite charming gazebo. Most receptions are held outdoors, on the Plaza, but the Garden does have a large Day Hall which can be utilized in case of bad weather. – – The Facts – Depending on…
Art and Nature in the Middle of the City
by jessi3 at Citysearch
Located in bustling Midtown, the Botanical Gardens offer an inexpensive way to spend the afternoon exploring exotic plant life, alternating art installations, nature walks, and simple snacks. For only $12, you can buy a cup of frozen yogurt or small pastry and cruise the rock garden, orchid house, Japanese garden, and multiple landscapes. What draws me most often is my love for art?currently you can view sculptures in motion either blowing in the wind or activated by your clapping hands. Famous glass artist Dale Chihuly has two breathtaking permanent exhibits on location, but you can catch different artists? work displayed throughout the year. Tanks of tropical frogs and impeccably refined landscape make the experience truly peaceful, enjoyable, and memorable. Parking is available on and off site, kids truly love it, and they offer special evenings accompanied by the occasional event or wine tasting for a unique, romantic night out. If you?re just searching for a neat way to spend Saturday morning and craving some aestheticism, the Botanical Gardens can provide both without the inconvenience of travel or high entrance prices.
- Pros: Inexpensive, diverse, and beautiful experience
Great venue for all
by kbellis at Citysearch
This venue appeals to young and old, trendy and conservative, singles and couples. The children's garden is abolutely precious from it Peter Rabbit display to the fountains. Toddlers love it.
And the exhibits are fabulous. The current Niki exhibit is stunning.
- Cons: Food in the cafe is good but overpriced.
Good for kids
by heyne at Citysearch
The garden has a very nice section for children. In the summer be sure to pack a suit or a change of clothes. There are serveral places for the kids to get wet. Children can get bored (or scared) in the orchid section, so we stick to the kid area across the bridge. The family membership is worth it if you plan on attending several times. Parking can be a pain. Be sure to go all the way in and check the lot before taking a street spot away from the garden.
