Editorial Review for Fritti – by Michael Longshore
The Scene
Done up in red and black, this urban hot spot is anything but a neighborhood pizza joint. A pair of brick beehive ovens center the small, edgy dining room. A hip bar sits on the right as you walk in, and a modest patio, bordered by amphoras and potted plants, is open in good weather. Service is extremely professional and friendly.
The Food
Authentic flavors, simply presented, are at the heart of this European-style pizzeria. Crispy, perfectly tender calamari arrive on a square of brown craft paper. Crunchy-soft potato croquettes are spiked with sweet Gorgonzola. Pizzas, which are small enough for one person, are like oversized hors d'oeuvres; if you're with a group, cut them up and trade them around. Be on the lookout for a pie with prosciutto and arugula and one with sausage and tangy Robiola goat cheese. Housemade gelato is the best bet for dessert.

Just got back from Fritti as I was having a serious pizza jones, cannot express how disappointed I was. Had been here a few times before and the food has always been good however I will not be returning. I ordered a sausage and roasted pepper pizza and I knew I was in trouble when it showed up at my table within 5 minutes, it was a puddle of undercooked goo. The crust was barely darkened and the dough was white, awful. I told my waitress and she obligingly took it back and proceeded to tell me the "head chef" says that is how the make them. I grew up and lived in New Haven, Ct most of my life and have been schooled in the delights of Neapolitan apizza (Wooster St), this alleged chef should make a pilgrimage there and learn the fine art of apizza making, and yes in New Haven it's spelled Apizza.
Pros: Decent atmosphere
Cons: Awful pizza

If you want authentic pizza, Fitti is the place to go. It is sort of crowded and loud, but the food is great, especially the thin crust pizza. It is across the street from Usher's Grape restaurant.
