Editorial Review for Apres Diem – by Michael Longshore
The Scene
This busy hangout is equal parts coffee house, lounge and bistro. The inside space divides into comfortable rooms that feature dark paneling, deep couches and heavy louver blinds to shield you from the strip mall outside. In fair weather, the action spills over onto a large patio. It's the ideal place to sip espresso, smoke cigarettes and pretend to dig through "Ulysses."
The Food
Known for its coffee drinks, desserts and bar scene more than its main menu, Apres Diem works best as a cool meet-the-friends place or a low-key late night date. Coffee drinks are a specialty, and the variations include seductive titles like Mochaccino Blanc (espresso, white chocolate and steamed milk) and White Gold (steamed milk with honey on the side). A well-stocked cake counter in one room vies for your attention with an equally well-stocked bar next door. Snacks--baba ghanouj, hummus and calamari--are a better option than pastas or entrees.

This is the place my boyfriend and I go to when we want to go out but don't have a place in mind. The food -- great every time. The hummus is absolutely the best I have ever eaten. The Greek salad is wonderful. My bf loves the sandwiches. We have been many times and the food is consistently good. The atmosphere -- something for everyone. The dining room and patio are candle lit and romantic -- good for dates. There is a lounge in the back for coffee or drinks with your friends. Plus a bar area for getting loud. Service is good. Occasionally there is jazz or other live music. Prices for the apps, pasta, sandwiches, and salads are good. My only complaint: The entrees are priced too high, so we've never tried them. Definitely give this place a try.
Pros: Food, atmosphere, most prices
Cons: Entrees cost too much; parking sometimes difficult due to movie theater next door

I always know I can go to this place and get what I'm looking for. The food is excellent and fairly priced. The servers are all beautiful. The dessert case always kills my diet. They have great jazz on Wednesdays. And for a professional drinker like me, its always nice to know that a Ketel One cocktail is only 6$. Not many other places in the city with that price. And the freaking mussels are ammmmaaaazzzing.
Pros: good food, awesome patio, live music
Cons: parking can be tricky next to the movies
