Editorial Review for Piedmont Park – by Citysearch Editors
The View
This centerpiece of Midtown sports spacious lawns, paved pathways, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, two soccer fields, a pool and two ponds--not to mention a postcard view of Midtown's pointed peaks. Framing the scenery on either end of the park are the Atlanta Botanical Garden and Park Tavern. Trivia buffs should note the various statuary and memorials of local history.
The Experience
Piedmont Park is the mecca of outdoor activities in the city proper, and it continues to improve. Ongoing renovations have restored the park's resplendent emerald lawn and serpentine path--it's one of Midtown's best jogs. You can also rent inline skates and bikes across the street, at the Skate Escape on Piedmont Avenue and 12th Street. As Atlanta's see-and-be-seen playground, the park is often jammed to near capacity on weekends.

Insider Tips
ParkingYou can try 10th Street but will likely have to settle for Midtown's narrow streets. The Midtown MARTA station is a 10-minute walk.
The ExtrasBring your pooch to the extremely popular dog run, in a fenced-off area behind the park's tall stone bridge. Dog owners mingle with as much fervor as their pets.

This is a beautiful park for walking/jogging, sightseeing or picknicking. I personally do not like the fact that people allow their dogs to run around without leashers. If you are a dog lover - this is the place to see a fashion show of every breed of dog. There are plenty of benches and green spaces to spread a blanket, sit back, relax and enjoy the sights. If you have young children beware because there are plenty of gay/lesbian couples enjoying the park as well.

My boyfriend and I went to piedmont park around 11pm on a saturday. We were unsure whether or not the park was still open but it was. We didn't explore too far in the park because we saw some swing benches overlooking water before it got too late. I loved it though, very peaceful and quiet. It was the first time I went and I really enjoyed it. Hopefully one day I'll go again with my boyfriend when it's day time and explore a bit.
