No other green space in Atlanta offers such a dramatic view of downtown..
The Scene
This park is best for those who live in the area and want a traffic-free jog, or for those who are visiting the nearby attractions. The Carter Center anchors the park, and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, which gives the park its name, sits adjacent to it. The recreational path comes with a great view of the city. Jog west, particularly at dusk, and reward yourself with an up-close panorama of the southern skyline, including Peachtree Center and the Georgia Pacific Building.
The Draw
Less crowded than Piedmont Park, Freedom Park is a good place to bike, run or rollerblade, especially if you don't seek the limelight when working out. Look for a few decently maintained basketball and tennis courts at Goldsboro Road. The functional layout consists mostly of grassy medians and a ribbon of paved recreational paths, so there are better parks for relaxation.
