“The sides are basically the same as across the street at Bill Greenwood's other wonderful location, Greenwood's!”
“Then, order the best bananna desert in the world.”
“Ice cold beer served straight out of a canoe with about 300 lbs of ice in it.”
“As far as the side dishes go, the macaroni and cheese was SO GOOD!”
“The restaurant is a fun, friendly, upbeat place and is a great value for your money!”

“Good is delicious, quick, and homemade.”

Great barbecue and the chocolate chip banana pudding is insane! The live music on Friday and Saturday nights is always great! Bonus: Enjoy the gardens across the street at Greenwoods.
Bad Barbeque!. Eating here was the worst decision ever! The staff was slow, rude, and very unclean. My waitress had barbeque sauce all over her and smelled like pot. I asked the waitress if the entrée salad comes with a side item, and she gave me an annoyed glance, rubbed her nose (that touches everyone’s drink glass she serves), and walked away! JUST WALKED AWAY! I asked the manager for help, and she seemed barely able to speak English. The bathrooms smelled like an outhouse and unfortunately looked like one. The entire inside of the building is very dark, crowded, and has a noxious smell. I spotted a few cockroaches and there was a flea in my food that tasted inedible anyway! I am never coming back!
great service, great food.... I loved this place. Great atmosphere, great service and good food. Lovedsitting back and listening to the band play and having a few drinks.
Terrible food!. This place came highly recommended, and it is very cute with a fun atmosphere, especially because of the great bands. However, that is where the good stuff ends. It was the worst BBQ we've ever had. "Baby back" ribs were very fatty & thick, no way could they actually be baby back. They came out cold. The pork sandwich was all the parts you just don't want to eat, very fatty. The baked beans also came out cold! The fried green tomatoes could have been fine, but they were cut thick and didn't spend enough time in the fryer so not fully cooked thru. Altogether, the food is just not edible. And the server could have cared less that we didn't like it. Too bad, wish it was all it is cracked up to be.
One of the best meals I have had!. I saw a food show that was highlighting BBQ joints in Atl and they had a segment highlighting this place. Well let me tell you, everything the show said about this place is true. Some of the best food I have since I have lived here. I would highly recommend this place to anyone interested in eating some authentic down south BBQ. The portions are huge so prepare to be full when you leave here. A 5 out of 5 on my scale.
Still one of the best.
I had worked for a few months in the Roswell area two years ago and fell in love with Swallow in the Hollow. I was in the area last week for the ACC tourney and made a special point of going back.
I was quite nervous, as some reviewers claimed the quality had taken a serious nose dive. I am writing this review to claim it hasn't. Swallow in teh Hollow still delivers some of the best BBQ I have had the pleasure of eating.
I am on the road frequently and make a point of trying the local BBQ joints every time I can. I still think this is one of the best.
Very good Bar-B-Q in the ATL area. Ice cold beer served straight out of a canoe with about 300 lbs of ice in it. Very nice! The dinner portions are more than most humans can consume and very good quality. I typically get a half order of the Baby Back Ribs which comes with two sides. I recommend the Fried Green Tomatoes and Mac-n-cheese. Wash it all down with an ice cold vitamin Y, sit back and relax to some great live music. If you're in the Roswell area or just searching for something with a special atmosphere, check it out.
change is not always good. Menu has changed for the worst...many of the items we liked are no longer there (smoked sausage, and pizza) They still have a sausage sandwich but it does not compare to the other one. More fat in the meat. Thank goodness if your going for a show you are not required to eat there. Be very careful when you think you have a confirmed accomodation (as they call it) better call and confirm. Only one dessert offered and it's ok at best. I'd rather have less food and more quality on my plate. Parking is atrocious...staff can be very rude. Just lower your expectations and you may love it.
HAVING AN ISSUE?. I'M TRYING TO FIND OUT IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE GREAT FOOD AT THIS RESTAURANT???? LAST NIGHT WE HAD SOGGY FRIES, WATERERY, RUNNY MAC & CHEESE ETC... WHEN I TOLD THE SERVER SHE STATED THEY WERE HAVING ISSUES!!! IM HOPING IT WAS JUST A ONE TIME ISSUE!!!
Love the food!. All four grown children love this place. Favorites are ribs, pork, mac and cheese and their pickles. Full of atmosphere and personality!
Avoid.
My wife and daughter went to the swallow at the hollow as it was advertised on a PBS special about BBQ's. The atmosphere was ok, more like an old joint or honkytonk. We ordered a full portion
of ribs for my wife and I ordered a BBQ plate of pulled pork, our sides were fried green tomatoes and macaroni and cheese for me and my wife ordered F.F. and brunswick stew. It is a sad state of affairs when the side orders are better than the BBQ, but that was the case. The Mac and cheese was very good, the fried green tomatoes were greasy but cooked and hot, but I could have greased my car with the amount of oil that came with that order, the F.F. were over done, the brunswick stew was hot and tasty, the ribs were cold, and the pork was cold, over all the food at Sonny's BBQ was 100% better than the swallows. All in all I would not eat there again. The salads did look good, and it seems many people were ordering them, maybe thats what we should have done. Make no mistake about it, this is not a high quality restaurant if your looking for good BBQ. I guess if you knock back a few brew's most anything could taste good. I would avoid this place at all costs. I'm going to try Starbury's next time, but that is supposed to be good too, ugh, I hope so. I am a BBQ expert to a great extent, and this ain't it.
