There are plenty of casual dining spots and sports bars in Midtown, but if you're taking in a show at the fabulous Fox Theatre, we think you should dine at a restaurant worthy of the formal occasion. Besides, if you're all dressed up, might as well do it right. With this in mind, we give you five restaurants near Atlanta's Fox Theatre that are worthy of your classy evening agenda. Located directly across the street in the historic Georgian Hotel, Livingston is the official restaurant of the Fox Theatre, and there couldn't be a more appropriate pairing. Chef Gary Mennie (of Canoe fame) does a bold American menu with local emphasis, and the old school, glamorous setting is unmatched for your Fox agenda.
This upscale Italian cafe boasts ridiculously good brick-oven pizzas and better-than-average pasta plates. Its cozy warm decor is more comfortable than formal, making this our pre-theatre choice during the cooler months.
Tucked away in a sleepy, two-story building, Top Flr is one of our city's most underrated restaurants. What it lacks in formality, it makes up for with a hip vibe and flawless execution. The digs are understated and simple, and the international menu is affordable but delightfully good.
While historic Mary Mac's is just down the street, our choice for upscale Southern dining near the Fox Theatre is Dogwood. The two-story restaurant is spacious but warm, and the menu is full of comforts with grits, fried chicken and pork tenderloin on the menu. Present your Fox Theatre ticket and receive a free glass of wine or cocktail with the purchase of an entree.
MF Sushibar is Atlanta's purist (and most expensive) sushi restaurant. It's a raw-only kind of place that looks down on heavy fusion sauces and prefers you wear dressier-than-usual attire because it's a dressier-than-usual place. Don't look for sake bombs, but that's not why you came.
Most Atlantans know the story of this Yaarab Temple-turned-movie house-turned-theater that nearly bit the dust on more than one occasion. Now regarded as one of the premier performance arts theaters of its class, the Fabulous Fox hosts touring Broadway shows, legendary concerts, ballet, performance art, and even weddings and proms.
