They are the ultimate all-American clothing item. A pair of jeans is as versatile as a Swiss Army knife--always as fashionable as they are functional. Everyone has their own type; high-dollar painted on matchsticks that make the guys (or girls) go crazy, retro-chic high-waist bell bottoms a la Farrah Fawcett, or just good ol' vintage Levi dungarees you pray will make it through another year. We've picked eight denim destinations worthy of a quick strike, 'cause the sooner you break 'em in, the sooner they fit just right.

4400 Ashford Dunwoody Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30346 (map)

While not a boutique, Bloomingdales can offer something that few of the hip storefront shops provide: selection. Their huge list of brands allows this shopping giant to outfit any shape, size or age (tikes included) in stylish duds. The luxury of being able to rapidly ship items or sizes they are out of doesn't hurt either.

  2. 2 3.5 Star Rating: Average Blue Genes Inc

3400 Around Lenox Rd NE Ste 214, Atlanta, GA 30326 (map)

Inside this Buckhead boutique a stone's throw from Lenox Mall is just about any designer brand you can think of. The main focus is the L. A. look of premium designer denim. Bring your wallet, as most of these labels will run you a few Benjamins, but for you jean freaks out there--this is your one stop shop.

  3. 3 4.5 Star Rating: Recommended Clothing Warehouse

420 Moreland Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30307 (map)

To get near-impossible-to-find orange tab 70's Levi's, check out this shabby-chic retro-haven in colorful Little Five Points. It's like hitting up the thrift store of your dreams, and while the prices may seem high for second-hand goods (most jeans run around $35-45), it's way worth the time you save on rummaging through thousands of pairs on a quest at the Goodwill. Those in the know will ask the staff if there are more jeans in the back room that they haven't priced yet.

  4. 4 5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended Lenox Square

For those wanting national brands ranging from moderate to uber pricey, just camp out in Lenox Mall a while. Ralph Lauren, Express, Diesel, Gap, Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters, and Guess all call Lenox home.

What's not to like about this place? Tons of gently worn denim at a fraction of mall prices? Yes, please. You can even help pay for the new-to-you denim with your old clothes by taking advantage Rag-o-Rama's sporty buy/sell/trade program. It lands squarely between Clothing Warehouse (or Stefan's) and Valeu Village. Once you find a pair of recycled jeans, peruse the rest of the store for some amazing deals and staple accessories for half the cost.

1601 Ponce DeLeon Ave, Atlanta, GA 30306 (map)

For a Levi's aficionado, or simply the classic Atlanta hipster, this is the place to go. Previously hard-to-find premium cut denim, along with super-skinny "how'd-they-get-in-those?" jeans are now in abundance for both guys and gals. Jet-black punk-rock styles, stiff blue bell bottomed high-waisted jeans, along with denim dyed all sorts of colors make this place to satisfy the city warrior. Urban also carries the super affordable BDG brand that remains fashionably thrifty.

  7. 7 4 Star Rating: Recommended Bill Hallman Shoes

784 N Highland Ave., Atlanta, GA 30306 (map)
