Best of Citysearch: Spa & Beauty
Updated: October 28, 2009
You’re looking good, Atlanta. No, really. Who cuts your hair? Who makes your skin look so rosy? Who massages away your tension and keeps you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed? In a city known for such accolades as Worst Traffic on the Planet, we could all use a little pamperin, and we want your take. From now until Nov. 10, spend a few minutes nominating spas, salons and other beauty business for our Best of Citysearch polls. To get you started, here are a few of my favorite spots to unplug.

Soda Salon - Atlanta

HAIRCUT: It’s been a few years since I’ve let a traditional barber take a stab at my floppy mop, but ever since Soda Salon did hair and makeup for a fashion show I was in, I’ve not once cheated on them. Stylists (I’ve had 4 there) are hip, friendly and have credentials to boot--Soda's been honored with Most Innovative Stylist by Vogue and its stylists have worked the Michael Kors show at NY Fashion Week.

Bliss Spa

SPA: Massages are not really my thing; I’m more of a steam man. So, while I see no reason to blow a ton of cash getting my body kneaded like pastry dough, a hot treatment is up my ally. Enter: Bliss Spa’s shrink wrap. They butter you up with lotion, wrap you in tin foil and turn on the heat. It’s supposed to help you lose water weight (this resulted in plenty of laughter among colleagues and friends), but I found the human-baked-potato experience to be incredibly soothing.

American Haircuts
Write a review20 10th St Nw, Atlanta, GA 30309 (map)
MEN’S SHAVING & GROOMING: It’s no secret I don’t have much of a heavy beard but, as someone who tries to embrace classic grooming philosophy, I find the old-school barber shave to be quite a romantic experience. Thankfully, American Haircuts does the classic shave with hot towels, rich lather and the like. Plus, with towels and razors engulfing your melon, it’s impossible to look at your phone--something I try and part with whenever I get an excuse.

Inman Park Nails
Read Reviews910 Austin Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30307 (map)
NAIL SALON: While this is probably going against the dude code of conduct, I am a sucker for a manicure. Pedicures weird me out, but having my fingernails buffed ‘n’ cut (hand massage included) makes me feel a bit like Roger Sterling. And every man needs to feel like that guy every once in a while. Inman Park Nails, located off Austin Ave, is everything a nail spot should be: clean, located in a charming neighborhood and reasonably priced.

Peachtree Athletic Club
Read Reviews227 Courtland St NE Fl 9, Atlanta, GA 30303 (map)
GYM: Working and living in a loft, I’m obviously a fan of that style of living. Peachtree Athletic Club is as if a gym magically appeared in a lofty Downtown skyscraper. Located 10 stories up in the Peachtree Center parking garage, the views of the city skyline give you something good to look at as you grind through workouts. Plus, we give bonus points for the 1980s "Miami Vice" vibe and the steam/sauna areas in the locker room.
