Amid our our city's speakeasy, back-to-basics cocktail obsession, it's not tough to find a truly proper drink in Atlanta--one you?d be proud to deliver to both your grandfather and a young mustachioed dude in suspenders. From gin martinis at Highland Tap to scotch at Bone's (pictured), here's where to sip Atlanta's best classic cocktails. (Photo: Courtesy of Bone's)

GIN MARTINI: This underground steak cellar has the best martini in town. And we aren't talking about a vodka martini or a Cosmopolitan. Gin and vermouth are the only way to go. The accompanying sidecar, delivered hotel-style in an iced tumbler, just adds to the time-warp effect.
OLD FASHIONED: Decatur's Barcelona-channeling gastropub, the Iberian Pig, does two versions of this classic drink. A whiskey old fashioned (bourbon, bitters, soda water and muddled orange, cherry and sugar cube) and an Iberian old fashioned. The Iberian tempts everyone (old-schoolers included) with bacon-infused rye, multiple bitters, brown sugar and orange and lemon twists.
MANHATTAN: A Manhattan is a basic concoction (no muddling involved) that is made with whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters. When a drink has few ingredients, we look to a properly decorated bar. And Sauced looks and feels as if Wes Anderson re-designed your grandmother's living room. Could there be a more perfect setting? We think not.
SCOTCH: Bone's does a mean martini (garnished with blue cheese-stuffed olives) and a proper Manhattan, but Atlanta's most masculine steakhouse is just begging for the most masculine of cocktails: Scotch. And more specifically, we love the super-smokiness of a 10-year-old Laphroaig.
MOSCOW MULE: A dangerous drink named for our Russian foes in the 1950s, a Moscow Mule is made with vodka, ginger beer and lime. And of the few spots that feature this deliciously drinkable cocktail, there is no more appropriate setting than Atlanta's cocktail champ, Holeman & Finch. And if you ask nicely, the bartenders will even serve it properly--in a copper mug.
