Guys Night Out
Updated: August 03, 2009
Ah, a night out with the fellas. You and your buddies are all modern, sensitive, sophisticated individuals, connoisseurs of the fine food, art and culture this city has to offer. But, when together with no woman-folk around, you become a pack of ravenous, overly competitive neanderthals, eager to tear flesh, guzzle booze and satisfy all the urges you're barely able to suppress. Here's a list of the best places for men to be men--leaving out only strip clubs--both for good taste and because you already know where those are.

10 High Club
Read Reviews816 N Highland Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306 (map)
Dudes love drinking. Dudes love heavy music. Dudes love bars with plenty of eye-candy. It’s all-in-one at the 10 High, baby. Hit the bar for Metalsome Monday, aka live-band, heavy-metal karaoke. Get hammered and sucker ol’ Jim into belting out AC/DC on stage. High-five fellow dudes that slay it and laugh at the dudes that go in the tank. Slam RB&Vs but do resist the party favors from the girl you swear you saw at the Pink Pony last October.

Five Seasons Brewing

Two words: handcrafted beer. Plenty of dudes are (or think they are) suds connoisseurs. Lucky for Atlantans, there are two locations for the hop-obsessed fellows. If you want to combine dinner and drinks, they have a menu that features "special, locally farmed ingredients," but we are much more impressed with their vintage bottle-conditioned ales and beirgarten. Priorities, people.

Bobby Jones Golf Course
Read Reviews384 Woodward Way NW, Atlanta, GA 30305 (map)
Gents typically turn to the golf course to get away. It's a place to drink beer, suck down cigars, gamble with their buddies ... and use trees as urinals. Those in-towners who are not members of Druid Hills or Capital City should look to Bobby Jones in Buckhead as their public option. With newly planted greens (similar to prestigious East Lake) and fees under 40 bones, it’s the city’s best public deal.

Highland Cigar Co.
Read Reviews245 N Highland Ave NE Ste 140, Atlanta, GA 30307 (map)
For high-class scotch ‘n’ cigar guys, the Highland Cigar Co. is unmatched: a walk-in humidor, super-fancy ventilation system, giant leather chairs, 40 different scotches and high-def flat screens to take in games. For guys who want to get their gamble on, it’s not uncommon for the bar to break out the card tables. Sleeping there, while tempting, is not permitted.
-
Highland Tap
Read Reviews1026 N Highland Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306 (map)
Sure, Bones, Chops and Rathbun Steak get all the steak credit in this town, but there is no single more masculine restaurant (or bar) than the Highland Tap. Lodged underground in a stone cellar, this is a no-bull kind of place. Big ol’ slabs of prime rib served with martinis and sidecars cement it as dude-friendly. The cougars that stroll in late-night simply add to the possibilities.

Nadine's Triple Crown
Read Reviews1042 North Highland Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30306 (map)
Barbershops have always been bastions of male bonding, but this spot takes it to another level. Beverages of your choice, personal TVs and giant leather barber chairs create a boys club atmosphere. Get an old-school shave while watching a ballgame, and drinking beer--she can't be mad at you if you come home looking better than when you left.

Pcheen
Read Reviews701-5 Highland Ave, Atlanta, GA 30312 (map)
There is just something all guys like about barbecue. The grill, the smoke, the meat--whatever it is--barbecue operates like a tractor beam for dudes. And, it really doesn’t matter if you’ve already eaten; you can eat again. Our call for ‘cue is Mike’s Bone Lick BBQ. Every Monday P’cheen unloads super-marbled ribs, NC-style pulled pork and smoked trout (on nachos!) that’ll make you salivate for days afterwards. Get some.

Turner Field
Read Reviews755 Hank Aaron Dr SE, Atlanta, GA 30315 (map)
There is no other type of guy ritual like sports. And, while we love the Falcons, it’s tough to get too fired up when they play in a temp-controlled Dome. (Boo!) Sports were meant to be played outside, so enjoy summer evenings with a cold beer, hot dogs and the Bravos at the Ted. Plus, with games as cheap as $6, it’s a good option for frugal dudes.
