Australian Bakery Cafe Llc
Read Reviews463 Flat Shoals Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316 (map)
"This secret in the East Atlanta Village is absolute money for those who like meat, pastries and being full for three bucks. For those unfamiliar with Aussie meat pies, here's the gist: the square pies are encrusted in a buttery puff pastry that is flaky yet holds a heavy filling without falling apart. Inside, the meat is ground fine, spiced and sauced with a touch of brown gravy. It's like miniaturizing beef stew and stuffing it in a pot pie crust. Are you an egg lover? I am not, but you can also try an Aussie breakfast pie for $3.75." Jonathan Baker Citysearch Atlanta

Bone Garden Cantina
Read Reviews1425 Ellsworth Ind Blvd, Atlanta, GA 30318 (map)
"What's not to love? The sweet, juicy bananas are encapsulated in a cinnamon & sugar speckled fried pastry shell served with a dollop of whipped cream. These little nuggets of heaven go for $2 a pop, making it impossible to resist seconds. These warm treats are a perfect ending to the funky spin on a la carte Mexican thats packin' heat at Bone Garden Cantina. I dare you to order just one." Laura Haynes AFOMFT - Atlanta

Brandy's World Famous Hot Dogs
Write a review1377 Church Street Ext NE, Marietta, GA 30060 (map)
"While I seriously doubt anyone outside the US of A (let alone Northern Georgia) is familiar with Brandi's fiery version of this blue-collar heart-killer, that is not to say they shouldn't be. The wiener itself is slightly off-putting neon pink in color, but it is covered up by a healthy dose of smooth ground beef chili spicy enough to make the devil ask for more ice in his sweet tea. A thin stripe of runny yellow mustard and a sprinkling of diced onion is all this oh-so- greasy wonder in a bun needs. If you are faint-of-tongue, ask for the dog drained to reduce the heat." Alon's
Read Reviews1394 N Highland Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306 (map)
"Alon's Bakery and Market boasts a build-your-own bruschetta station with tubs upon tubs of fresh ingredients to choose from. If you're a fickle foodie, just ask the bruschetta-ista behind the counter for a list of ideas. For $2.99, the Eggplant Bruschetta delivers a colorful spread of white bean puree spread, oven-cooked Eggplant, garlic, arugula, maters, and pine nuts on two sizeable slabs of toasted bread. Bellissimo!" Laura Haynes AFOMFT - Atlanta

Lee's Bakery
Read Reviews4005 Buford Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30345 (map)
"This is best (and one of the most delicious) food deal in town - housemade crispy baguette with the right tooth and crunch, warm spice-scented grilled pork, cucumbers, pickled veggies, jalapeno and cilantro. To go, they are $2.50 (including tax) and SIX for $12.00! It's the perfect sandwich combination of spice, texture, and crunch. Ask for the veggies on the side if you're not planning on eating it right away...and make sure you throw some change in the tip jar - a 20% tip still keeps this sandwich under $3!" Lottafrutta
Read Reviews590 Auburn Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30312 (map)
"For the 3 buck biter that doesn't want a giant ethnic sandwich or plate of greasy meat, LottaFrutta, the good-for-you snack shack in Atlantas Old 4th Ward, does adorable ice pops that sucker-punch heaviness with fresh fruit action. For $1.50 you get this curious cartoon-colored plastic cup with a wooden stick popping out of the top of it. Here's how to operate: 1.) Defrost the treat by holding the cup in your hands. 2.) Gently peel away lid. 3.) Turn it upside down and give the cup a tug while holding on to the wooden stick. Bam! A fresh fruit Popsicle, kid-style! While flavors like mango or watermelon tend to dominate the freezer, look for avocado or cucumber-chile when it's available." Jonathan Baker Citysearch Atlanta

Queen of Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant
Read Reviews1594 Woodcliff Dr NE Ste G, Atlanta, GA 30329 (map)
"Queen of Sheba, nestled in the Briarcliff Station shopping center, delivers comforting, fresh and traditional Ethiopian food. To enjoy without breaking the bank, order up a round of Sambussa, a traditional meatless appetizer both filling and flavorful. These thin pastry shells are heartily stuffed with lentils, onions, green peppers and spices. Lightly deep-fried in vegetable oil to a golden perfection, these flaky treats are sure to satisfy your palate and your wallet." Laura Haynes AFOMFT - Atlanta

Thumbs Up Diner
Read Reviews573 Edgewood Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30312 (map)
"For a filling-yet-vegetarian way to enjoy some cheap hearty fare, we turn to our old friend, the potato. Atlanta's Thumbs Up Diner delivers a heaping pile of spuds that would technically be categorized in the hash brown family, but in reality look more like a casserole mountain. For $2.50, potatoes (peel and all) are sliced and diced with onions, peppers and house seasoning while a well-spent additional $.75 adds cheese. Crispy potato-onion char lines the perimeter while chunkier bites in the middle self-melt the shredded cheddar casing. Those looking for a side of meat can try chicken sausage, but even flying solo this dish is filling." Jonathan Baker Citysearch Atlanta
